Default Battery Tender

I'm crushed. It's Christmas morning and believe it or not it's 42 degrees in NE Pa. Roads are dry-time for a cruise. NOT!!!!The battery is dead and I don't have cables. Has anyone used the "Battery Tender"? I just checked out their website. They have a battery tender plus for $59.95.Seems like a decent price. I assume I need a 12V for a 63. As always, responses are appreciated.

Merry Christmas.

You can get a quality unit by Schumacher at Walmart for under $20. I've been using them for a long time. Always keeps the battery ready.

I use the tenders on both my vettes, along with the green **** cutoff's. I use them even if I'm going to drive the cars the next day, lots of piece of mind with the cutoff and a fully charged battery.

Also those with C4's will relate to this.... it's been a long time since I've replaced the alternator, the tender takes the strain off the c4 alt having to work to charge up the battery.

Using the Wal Mart Schumacher for my 63's battery. Keeps it nice and fresh.

Default solar charger

Another option is a solar trickle charger. No AC power source is needed with these, just a sunlight source. (window).
Boat owner often use these chargers.

I went the extra mile and bought a 12volt 4amp BatteryMINDer.

Sulphation is the #1 cause of early battery failure and loss of performance as determined by the Battery Council International, Dec. 1998. Guaranteed to increase your battery's life and performance, or you get 100% of your money back within 1-year.

The BatteryMINDer® is a 3-mode charger/maintainer/conditioner that extends performance and life of all types and sizes of 12 Volt lead acid batteries. These include maintenance-free, marine, deep cycle, sealed, gel, and all popular brands of AGM dry-type, valve-regulated batteries, such as InterState, Exide, Optima and Odyssey.

Features

Safely charges-maintains-conditions all size and type starter, deep cycle, maintenance-type, maintenance-free, sealed, gelled, AGM or dry-type batteries.

I have Battery Butlers on my 3 Vettes, my boat and my pickup truck. They work great and they are only $15. Charge only on demand. The green indicator light comes on when the battery is calling for a charge.

By the way, Lectric Limited gives the Butler away in the NCRS Driveline each issue by listing your membership number in their ad.

Default There's always one in the crowd

I purchased the most expensive model " BatteryMinder " from one of the aftermarket battery supppliers, ( along with a correct dated acid, tar top battery ) and if I leave the charger on for more then 12 hours, the battery overflows, and spews acid over the tray, frame, and dust shield.

Sadly this was not the best investementI ever made. I have since purchased a new hi-tech unit from " CTEK " and have never seen a better quality pproduct.

Vist the site at the following WWW.CTEK.COM

I've had Battery Tenders on my collector cars for 10 years now, and never had a problem. The batteries stay charged when the cars are in storage in my garage. I luv 'em. Bought mine at Pep Boys for $39.95 each many years ago.

Default Battery Tender

Had to replace my battery in my '98 a few years ago and then bought a Battery Tender. I like it and it seems to do the job. I believe the new model is the Battery Tender Plus. I was going to buy some as presents this year so "Google" it as I did for there are some deals out there as low as <$40.00.

I use the "Battery Tender Plus"; I connect it to each of my garage-stored cars about once a month during the winter, takes about 24 hours for the green light to come on, then I move it to the next one. On the cars where the battery is really buried and inaccessible without taking things apart (like the Ferrari), I hard-wire the cord to the battery with the in-line connector end accessible. Haven't bought a battery in years.

That's strange.
The instructions say to take all the filler caps off on non-vented lead acid batteries while charging. Is your period-correct battery vented?

The Battery Butler instructions say to do the same thing.

I use the Battery Maintainer from Sears. Same concept low trickle. I have 4 of them. Two on the boat, one on the Mustang and one on my 66. What I did was to run a dedicated circuit to all four Maintainers. The circuit has a timer on it. It runs 12 hours on and 12 hours off.

I have a generic brand battery maintainer that has been on the car
constantly for 2 years now. That along with super coils in the starter,
that old iron block cranks like jack the bear when its time for sunday
morning coffee.
