When was the car manufactured? Should be on the inside door sticker.

I ordered the disks. I finally got the nerve to try the install today. All went smoothly. My C6 was built mid-December 04 VIN 11987.

Hmmmm..... We noticed static too with our FM stations, but thought it was cause we live in the "sticks"...... (funny that the same stations in our Silverado sounded great.) Thanks for the info. I think I'll call our dealer tomorrow, play "dumb" and see what they say. Truth be known, though, I'd hate for them to come near the car. Who knows what else might not work after they have at it. (not to mention all the greasy fingerprints that'll be EVERYWHERE!) Reading the bulletin, the upgrade procedure seems rather complicated for someone who doesn't do this on a daily basis.... I'd hate to be buying a new navigation system.... try explaining that one......

Got software update disks and performed the upgrade
Ordered the disks from the local dealer ($17), threw caution to the wind and following the directions on the TSB (posted in this thread) I performed the upgrade.
The static is gone.
The CD now plays MP3s!

Do you know the part number of your radio ??? If I could find out if this CD will fix the MP3 problem on other than the part number listed in the bulletin, I may do the same thing.

My purchasing dealer's tech guys, put me on hold for what seemed like forever, then came back on and said they could do it. But because the roads are not the best, I had decided to try my "local" dealer too.
The tech said that he couldn't do it because they would have to order the disks, which he did while he had me on hold and checking the numbers I gave him from this thread. This was Thursday. He told to check back some time this week due to the holiday.
Well today, just to be sure, and to avoid the long trip to my purchasing dealer, I decided to call the local guys to see if their disks had come in yet. The answer was no. Check back tomorrow.
So I called my dealer, to tell them that I was on my way out to keep my appointment today and asked "just out of curiosity, you guys do have the disks don't you?"
Their reply: "Oh we can just do that with the Tech 2. We don't need the disks. Come on out, we'll be here and it shouldn't take more than a few minutes"
Since it went contrary to what I had heard before, I decided to call the local guy. His response: "No it cannot be done with the Tech 2. The file is too big."
Saved me a trip.

Burning Brakes
Right Click Link, Select "Save Target As..."
~10MB Download, ISO Version
ISO:
Unzip archive
Write the 2 ISO images to 2 CDs
Follow instructions in the text file
~10MB Download, Individual Files Version
Unzip archive
Write the contents of each folder to a CD (2), drill down into the folder and just write the files.
Per instructions: Turn the ignition "on" with the engine "off" by holding the ignition switch in "ACC" mode for at least 10 seconds, so your unit doesn't shut off during install
If you don't know how to write ISO images to CD, search google.com.
You will need a program that can convert and write an ISO image to CD.
ISO Converter and Burner
Might try extracting files and just writing them to CD:
ISO Extractor
Performed upgrade on VIN 101586 (Sept. 2004). See picture below.

I added an aftermarket xmdirect module to my nav. Had to jump some wires in the harness. I recall two. Will this upgrade damage my nav unit?

Worked great! Thank you very much! I actually went to the dealer today with a copy of the service bulletin to get this done and was given the runaround. I was told that I am not allowed to perform self-diagnosis on my vehicle, that a trained GM Mechanic needs to do that. So I would need to schedule an appointment and have the trained GM Mechanic diagnose the problem. Then the correct upgrade would be performed by using the Tech2. I was told they do not use CD's to perform upgrades. I politely told him "no thank you" and left without scheduling an appointment.
Just for clarification, I used Roxio Easy CD Creator to write the ISO files to CD:
1. After downloading and unzipping, I right-clicked on "Disk 1"
2. Selected "Open With..."
3. Selected "Roxio Easy CD Creator"
4. Made sure "Disk-At-Once" was selected in the bottom right
5. Clicked on "Start Recording"
6. Repeat for "Disk 2"
After that I printed off the Text file, followed the directions, and now she reads mp3's like a charm! Thanks again!

You can't burn the ISO file directly to CD and it work. You might be able to find an ISO extractor and then write those files directly to CD, just haven't tried it with these CDs. Thanks.
Searched Google with "iso extractor", found link below. Trial version extracted the files. ISO Extractor
