Default 1984 Single Turbo by JoBy

I have used the Vortech supecharger for five years and now I want to try something else.

I bought a Garrett GT40.

looks great.....just make sure that you've got enough room to fit the downpipe through there. 3" at a minimum I would think.

I plan on using a 4" downpipe.

I was waiting for that!

Actuallty I had not seen your pictures when I did this mockup.

I was thinking about keeping the left and right exhaust separated all the way to the turbo, but it was too tight and too complicated.

I wanted to keep the headers simple, and I wanted as much space as possible between the pipes and the spark plug wires. The #8 is the tightest because that pipe has to go down to make room for the downpipe.

Yes I removed the AC and modified the fan housing.

The turbo is a Garrett GT4088, 54 trim, 0.72 A/R

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...8_703457_2.htm

At 15 psi boost it has a flow range of 200hp to 600hp with the sweet spot at about 400 hp.

At 25 psi boost it has a flow range of 300hp to 700hp with the sweet spot at about 500 hp.

I think that it will work well with the 350.

Joby,
what size turbine wheel is that? looks like a P-trim, if so, may wanna ask Brian MNvette about that flow potential. and what kind of tube/pipe are you using? look cast? cast steel? SS or mild, gauge schedule?

I did som more searching and it is actually a GT4288N.

A/S part No 452174-0010
http://www.turbomaster.info/catalogo...tt&pagina=GT42

Compressor:
Inducor 65 mm
Exducor 88 mm
0.72 A/R
54 Trim

Turbine:
Inducor ?? mm
Exducor 68 mm
1.22 A/R
?? Trim

The guy that I bought the turbo from did not know exactly what it was, other than a big Volvo diesel turbo, but it seemd to be a good size and the price was right.

I measured the compressor side and found a match on the GT4088, so I figured that it was one.

The GT4288 must be using the same compressor as the GT4088, but a bigger turbine.

I have not measured the turbine inducer diameter.

I don't know exactly that the piping is, but it is not stainless.
The wall thickness is about 0.1".
We used the same ones when building headers on Fredriks Turbo IROC Camaro.

looking good man.. I like the way you brought that primary up and around and back into #4,6.. I have a set of ramshorn manifolds that have that style routing and was originally gonna be how I routed mine but the downpipe dictated a low sweet primary from number 2... plenty of ways to skin a cat though!

keep up the good work!

I have not started the crossover yet, but it should be simple ( Similar to yours ). I am going to try and get a piece of flex tubing on there too.

I am going to figure out the wastegate last, when the downpipe is in place. I want to put it behind the frame on the passenger side if I get enough room for it there. The backup plan is to put it on the drivers side like you did.
