Default Big Corvette wreck. God saves him.

Streets of Willow.
80 plus mph goes end over end and then lands on driver side. That's the story from the pits.
Gentleman walks away.
If your are the owner of this car and do not want this posted anymore I will delete it.
Thank GOD your okay.
Steve

I am glad the guy walked away. Those pics are amazing. That wheel came apart like nothing.

(Since the owner walked away, engage levity on my mark)
Hmm, propeller for a wheel. Airbags deployed ...
(engage ! ...)

Jeremy:
What a funny noise it's making!

Caractacus:
It's talking to us--all engines talk!

Jemima:
What's it saying?
It's saying Chitty chitty, chitty chitty, chitty chitty, chitty chitty,
chitty chitty,
(Bang - Bang)
Bang Bang
Seriously, though. Like you, I am glad this fellow walked away.
I am sure I don't have to say how the incidents this year have
affected me and influenced my thinking about what is supposed
to be a hobby for me. Although the car is a mess, the driver is
able to go home to his loved ones. Whew.

if he went end-over-end, I gues the repeated blows crushed it. I can attest that the OEM b-pillar is very strong (and HEAVY), but anything can be crushed. It is made of several layers of sheet steel, and once one panel gets crimped (like on the first hit), the repeated hits would really do it in.

phew glad he was or they were OK.

The pic of that rear proppeler wheel, did that break or what?? seems that the spokes of that star hub are bent.

Thin spoke wheels may look great, but not stong enough for track time.

Did the wheel brake causing the wreck or did the wheel get broken in the wreck?

The wheel did not break causing the accident.
This gentleman was his first time at this track. He did one warm up lap and then 1/2 lap under green flag conditions when this happened. Just going to fast, not knowing the track and in a tricky section lost control.
Streets of Willow has dirt run offs, but for some reason they never maintain it. Rain ruts, holes, dips and jumps are common on the edge of the track.

Well, that's another track on my "Do NOT Do" list.

Let's see now, we have on that list:

1. Rockingham.

2. Homestead

3. Lowes

4. Streets of Willow

Thankfully the fellow was okay. The hobby would have difficulty withstanding a serious injury, or God forbid, another fatality.

Instructors for the novice / green group??

Any event that does not have student instructors or has volunteer ( not paid ) corner workers / flag people is a track and event to stay away from.

Falcon you dont want to do Lowes ?? Blue ridge PCA will be back there next Aug or Sept.

I will go there once a year, but going into NASCAR turns 3 & 4 at 140+ MPH AND looking up into the corner of your windshield by the drivers side A piller just to see what is in front of you does get the neck a little sore.

Some 1.75 inch, .120 DOM steel would help that b-pilar out. He is a very lucky guy for walking away from that or if he didn't walk, to be alive.

Tom, I've done Lowes a few times in the TO BE PETTY cars and got the speeds and sensations of the oval. I found out then, if anything goes wrong on an oval, there's only one place you can go.

This event does have instructors for beginners. He was in the advance group.
They have paid corner workers and rescue people at these events.

A little bad judgement, bad luck, and bad track preparation caused this.

Glad he is OK.

I have seen that at Road Atlanta too...people crash on the first lap. Also have seen crashes on the 'cool down' lap.
