EBAY ZR1 Real or Fake
I'm new to this however there is a '91 ZR1 listed on EbaY that must be a fake. It is a yellow "converitable" vin number:
1G1YZ23J4M5800794
What's up with this one.

Carfax says:
VIN: 1G1YZ23J4M5800794
Year/Make/Model: 1991 CHEVROLET CORVETTE ZR-1
Body Style: COUPE
Engine Type: 5.7L V8 MFI DOHC 32V
Manufactured In: UNITED STATES
Search Results: 0 records found in our database
It didn't leave the factory as a ragtop.
I'll leave this one to the experts.

What is RPO?
When you say hacked do you mean it’s customized into a convertible?
What is ASC?
If it has been hacked does that significantly reduce the value?
Thanks

There was a guy over in NC that took a yellow car and made a vert ZR-1. This was 5+ years ago. I don't remember his name but he was in the Charolette area. I think he took a yellow vert and put the LT5 in it. I don't remember if he used a wide body either.
Wish I could remember his name. I know someone on here will know. Johnny, Tyler, you guys know?

RPO stands for regular production option. Example Z28 was a RPO offered on a Camaro. ASC stands for American Sunroof Company. I believe they converted the C4 convertibles for GM. It had to be changed to a ragtop by someone after it left the factory.

Hey Ed you are famous! The yellow car was done by Ed Simmons. There were verts with LT5s including an 88. There were no cars that came down the line as a convertable that included the ZR1 accessories IE wide fenders, doors, rims, etc. What GM did to test the feasibility of having a vert option was have ASC do several conversions. The DR 1 was one and the crushed car in Clearwater was another. I am not sure just how many were done privately but I know of at least one done in Tampa in 96.
Another tidbit of GM testing was some cars with LT5s were fitted with automatics. They had to be beefed up but they did survive but what killed the idea was the car was too hard to control as an automatic. The shifts got people in trouble especially in the wet so they decided to not make an auto option.

From the ZR-1 Registry Production numbers and colors page. It doesn't say what year though.
"In the book All Corvettes are Red, it mentions that 10 or 12 ZR-1 narrow body spyders were built. Some had DR-1 on the license plate in honor of Don Rukle the executive. He was presented with a silver ZR-1 convertible with a yellow interior built by ASC and Chevrolet at Bowling Green."

well it apears that it has the wide body so I would say its a conversion.
I do remember Ed Simmons doing a LT5 swap in to a yellow vert but I think that was just standard bodied they didnt do anything with the body the one on ebay has the wide rear quarters...
so again its a conversion

I think the only ZR1 "custom" vert is in the museum, if memory serves me correct. If its a real Z, I guess its chopped, like Scoob said.
A real 'vert would say 33 in the VIN, not 23
Gotta lose those gaudy Z badges, and get real ones!

They didn't touch the C4 verts. They did do the third gen camaros and firebirds.... notice how horrible those were. They were never designed from the get go as a Vert.

Hmm, in looking back at the pics, this car has NO 3rd brake light. I know it's in Europe, but "if" a US buyer brings it here in the states, would the gov't require installation of the 3rd brake light into the rear bumper??
Now that would definitely be a first. Never seen the cutout in a ZR-1 bumper.

ZR-1 ragtop
I see Gordon Killebrew signed the intake in 2005. Somebody get a hold of Gordon and ask him about this Corvette. I'm sure he know. Save the Wave.>George
