Do any forum members currently have a C4 fuel tank
out on the floor? Ideally for an '89 or thereabouts.

If you do and if you'd be willing to assist by
providing some pictures and measurements, please

The tank is about the entire width of the back, plus or minus a couple of inches... and about 18" high, if I remember rightly.

Also, if I remember rightly, it's the same tank for all years.

I'm looking into having a tank built by Rock Valley
Antique. They don't have a pattern for the C4 and
they've checked with the aftermarket but find
there aren't any sources in that channel yet.

The photos and numbers are a preliminary step
to determining feasibility. It would be too
much to ask a third party to provide the build
numbers. If I proceed, I'll have to pull my tank to
be sure that any unhappy moments during the
install can only be attributed to the guy I see in
the mirror.

remember that the c4 tank you see is actually the metal outer shell of the fuel tank itself.

No.

From what I understand about cells, these have
a maintenance angle that I'm not prepared for.
IIRC, bladders and foam need to be replaced on
a periodic basis.

I want something equivalent to the safety of the
OEM tank and with the same features (level) but
with much better fluid management.

I've been advised to just run with a full tank.

I'm not sure I understand the significance of the
remark. While I believe the C5 has plastic/composite
tanks inside a metal enclosure of some kind, I think
the C4 tank is just two stamped pieces joined at
a welded seam - similar to GM tanks of the 70's and
earlier. Perhaps this is what you are reminding me
of ?

Is your car still at the same build state? Any chance
of more pics or possibly some measurements?

Sorry, that is about the best pic I have of the tank, I have since finished my car.

I can't say the same for all c4 tanks, but mine is a plastic-type fuel cell inside that metal enclosure. Thats what I meant. - 1985 L98.

Are you building a drag car? What is the goal behind a custom fuel tank?

Not drags, I am keen on corners. I had a thread going
over in the AX/RR forum recently that lays out
the issue and the recommendations folks there offered.

I didn't realize the C4's used the metal/plastic
construction - this gives cause for pause when I am
thinking about a stainless replacement.

yea, there is a rubber bladder inside the metal tank. The biggest problem is that the bladder can sag, causing wierd level readings and such.

are you autocrossing or road racing? If you are racing, then GSR's might require you to have a cell.
