Default NYC Run For New Orleans Relief -- Donations to the Red Cross

Hey All,

I know we joke around all the time here, but this post is a serious one.

After seeing the devistation along the Gulf Coast, I am sure all of us are reminded of the devistation visited upon this great city on 9/11. At that time the world reached out to help us. Now it is our turn to help, and show why NYC and the tri-state area is a great and caring bunch of people.

Here's what we will do: I would ask ALL participants to bring a check for AT LEAST $50 made out directly to the Red Cross Hurricane Relief Fund. We will meet in NYC and then present (by driving to an office or have a representative in person) our moeny to the Red Cross. I will chose a nice spot to meet in NYC, so for all of those who have seen the NYC pix and have not been able to hit the City with us -- this is your chance to do that AND do something good.

I would like to do this either this weekend or next, since I want the maximum turnout, so input away. I am calling the Red Cross Whiteplains office to see about the specifics.

So please post up.

Great idea, and a good thing to do.

Let's get FJB to get us a police escort, and we can drive up the Bronx River Parkway, and hand it to them.

Ok -- so far we have 3. I am talking to the Ferrari and Viper guys as well.

Once we get a date, I'll also give the news agencies a call.

Please keep this on-topic.

I am between jobs right now and am moving and rennovating a new place in Manhattan, no excuse to not help.

I don't know if you've seen the pictures, but it's in a bad way down there. These people don't have running water, electricity or the fabric of normal society. It's a mess, and as somebody whose seen the 9/11 devistation it's my turn to repay the debt.

So we have 4 of us, surely we can't be the only ones.

Nabbs, I'm definitely in!

Overwhelming, just watching Fox News, the devastation is unbelievable, looks like something out of a movie. Sickening. This is the least we can do to help!

I'm trying to. I did what I could with 9/11 and on minimum wage and still in High School that was pretty damn impossible.

I will be donating to the red cross, but I will not be going on a drive to NYC in the worst fuel efficient car on the planet

George -- if you can't make it, would it be possible for you to physically hand a check to somebody who is coming? I would love to donate to the Red Cross in one lump sum.

Also, don't worry about parking or the NYPD in the city -- I have that covered.

I have been working the phones all evening calling all the Corvette people I know, and I can't believe how great all of you are!

I will have more details shortly about what you should do in regards to making the donation -- remember there is a tax deduction form to fill out if you wish.

I gave yesterday but I can give some more.

Do it on 9/11, it will be symbolic on that date, unless we can get people for Labor Day weekend.

Not that everyone should change their plans for me - but - on 9/11 I'm in a charity motorcycle run for 9/11 widows and orphans.

So, I'd vote for this weekend.

That works for me, you never gave a date so I just through that out there. ROPZ15 going to try to run on 9/11, but I think they may need to call 911

I donated via CC on the web. You could put it in the Corvette Forum name then they send you e-mail receipt. So we can included your donation in the total. Just a thought for those who cant make it up to the run.

Is this a Vette only event or should I spread the word to others who would like to get involved?

Ok, sorry but things are fluid -- I am looking at either Sat or Sun. The Ferrari guys have expressed interest but they have a run Sat, so if they come Sunday -- I'll do it Sunday.

George, you're a good man. Don't worry about FedExing anything, just do what Stephen did: donate online. No need to say CF or Nabbs or anything, I don't care about the recognition, I just want to get the money to the people who need it.

Rob -- please spread the word! I've posted this on the Z06, Viper and Ferrari boards.
