Details, from Camaro to Corvette....
I own a Camaro Z28 and I would like to know if anybody else has gone from a Z28 or SS to a Corvette and can somone tell me the experiance.
I know the Corvette handle a LOT better and it looks good too and yes the Corvette C5 did have the LS1 but the Camaro is heavier and less refined. Tell me the experiance from Camaro to Corvette. Thank you. And one day I too would like to own a Corvette.

I went from a new Z28 to a newer Z28 to a newer SS to a newer SS to a C6 in 9 years. Call me crazy, but my 97 Z28 was an awesome car. Must have gotten one built on a good day.. quick, sweet sounding exhaust, great sound system and handled great. Going to a C6 from another perfomance car is a step up in the food chain - noticeable, but not as noticeable as going from a 4-door econocar to a C6. Once you get a C6, "you are finally there", and will be happy!!!! My C6 gets better gas mileage than my previous cars, turns more heads, outperforms, cost the same to insure & gives me a great sense of pride.
What more could you ask for?

I have owned 6 Z/28's-69,79,81,91,95,and 98, and I can ASSURE you-buying that C6 was the best thing I ever did. There's no comparing the 2. Don't get me wrong, I loved every one of my Z's, it's just that the C6 is so much better in every way.

We'll hear rumors about the return of the Z/28 'till the end of time! I'm glad I didn't wait around.

C6 is a big step up!
Owned one of the first new design 93 Z-28 Cameros in Southeast Pa. So new, it drew as much interest by admirers as my C6 does now. So new, it didn't even have a T-Top, they were on constraint. I loved that car, with its straight line exceleration, yet good fuel economy when in 6th gear on the open road. Much like the C6 today. But their is no comparision between the two. The handling of the C6 on the twisties is the big difference, not to mention the LT1 vs LS2. Plus, the Camero became very common. The C6, with relatively low production numbers, is still an event when seen. Now the new Z-06 will be a big leap up even from there. I envy those about to experience owning one! Dream On!

I had a 5 spd stick 1991 Z28 convertible that I alternately drove with my 6 spd stick 1996 corvette convertible. They were both great cars and each had its own special qualities. I sold the Z28 after ten years and 172,425 miles to a guy in Texas who flew to Boston to pick it up and drive it home.
Now I have a 6 spd, Z51 2005 corvette vert to keep company with my 1996 corvette vert. Try a corvette; if you're like most of us, you'll be glad you did.

Owned Z28's dating back to the 70's (each model became a progressively 'lesser' product than the previous one, for shame, GM). Turned to a T/A in the late 90's.....continual mechanical problems although it was a beautiful car.
Two things: Friends have long owned Vettes and I've had the chance to drive/ride them. There is no comparison to GM's "Pony Cars".
While each model of Z28 was a step down in terms of mechanical soundness and general design, each model seemed to signal more mechanical problems. This ended with my T/A's myriad problems.
I plan on buying a '06 C6 this year. I'd sworn off of GM thanks to the incredibly poor products they were building. I am hoping...no, praying...that they hold Vette's in higher esteem and that the posters on this fine site have it right. In essence, I am hoping that the Vette proves me wrong and that GM can still build a solid muscle car.

I had a 2000 automatic Z28 vert. I live in San Diego, so the top was down most of the time and it was a lot of fun. Overall, for the price, it was a good car. In 2002, I considered upgrading to a C5 vert, so I rented one for a weekend. I really was not that impressed. The C5 handled better, and seemed a little faster. The interior was basically the same as my Z28 dash, which I always thought was a bit on the cheap side. The seats were a bit better, but almost anything would have been an improvement over those Z28 buckets. Bottom line was I did not go with the C5. I waited for the C6 and I'm really happy I did. The difference between this car and the Z28 is noticeable and worth the price differential.
Now with regard to the SS, I've been to Spring Mountain driving school and the instructors use the SSs and they keep nice pace with the C6s and the C5 Z06s. I've never driven one myself, but the instructors say its a pretty decent handling car.

I went from a Iroc Z to a new Z28 to a C5..That was a nice jump to the C5 as almost everything was different, from the look, the feel to the power.I don't think the jump to a C6 is going to be as nice as it was coming from a Z28 to a vette but I'll still do it anyways.

I presently own a 99 Camaro SS 6 sp, a 2000 Trans Am A4 Vert, and a C6 Coupe. All are factory stock.
The SS comes closest to the Vette, and as far a s sheer power and guts between the two, its hard to tell the difference from the drivers seat when accelerating in a straight line. Would take a time slip to tell the difference.
The SS handles quite well, but isnt in the same league as the C6 when pushed to the limit in the twisties.
A whole differnt feel

My 93 Z was the BEST sounding car I ever owned and I have had Z's Am's etc... since the 70's...
I considered the Z28 a "poor mans" vette and was very happy with it...
All that being said, you will like the Vette better in everyway except for the "vette tax"...

I sold my 2000 Z28 to get my '05 Vette. The vette is a whole different world. It is just a different level of class. They were/are both fun to drive but in different sorts of ways. Im not sure what type of description you are looking for here but there is not a good reason to avoid making the switch besides money. The only negative I have found about the new one (as it is my only car) is that I find myself anxious about haveing to go to/park in shady (not literally) places. The Z did not draw the same negative attention that Im sure the C6 does. Best of luck with your decision. Either route is a fun one!

I sold 2- 2000 ws6 formulas to buy my C6. Do I regret it, not for a second. My c6 is dsom z51 six speed. handling, ride, fit finish and quality are all better and insurance is cheeper.

I owned a 1987 IROC Z28, followed by a 1998 Z28. Both were great cars but the '98 had a LOT of little problems that the dealer never quite fixed. Traded that in for a 2001 C5 Coupe because i was doing high-speed "driver ed" weekends on tracks like Road America, and the Z28 handling would get scary when under full power in a very gentle curve.
The Corvette lacks back seats and has less ground clearance. Otherwise, everything is either a little better than the Z28 or a lot better, depending on what items you are examining. And, I don't have to wear my baseball hat backwards when driving a Corvette!

I own both a Trans Am and a Corvette. The Corvette is better in all respects. The only thing you'll miss is the sound of the exhaust (the F-body guys really knew how to make an engine sound good).

I owned a 1993 Z28 and kept it for 7 years. I replaced it with a 2000 C5 convertible. Since then I've also had a 2003 Z06, and now my Black C6 Coupe. I've always loved Vettes since I was a kid, as soon as I could afford one I was all over it!
