Default C5 World Record Is Mine - 1st Z06 In The 8s

That's right, boys and girls, my Z06 broke into 8s today in a big way. I'm very tired so I'll only give a brief run down of the runs I made tonight at Atco. I also have video that I'll post tomorrow.

9.17 @ 151
9.02 @ 152
9.16 @ 152
8.985 @ 152
8.968 @ 152
8.955 @ 154

And finally:
8.884 @ 154.49
The entire slips looks like this:
60' - 1.336
330' - 3.736
1/8 - 5.714 @ 124.24
990' - 7.380
1/4 - 8.884 @ 154.49

HUGE props to Neverlift and Cartek. I just ran 3 back to back 8s after running 4 back to back low 9s. Talk about consistency and reliability. Truly a winning combination.

Off to bed. I wonder if I'll wake up with this smile

Congrats Did you raise the boost level at all? Seems as though the 60'ft time was better. There is probably some more in there, I'm sure you'll see 8.5 before the seasons over. Congrats again.

Nice job. I remember seeing the 9.004 run and thinking so F#@$Ing close, but still so far away.

Now that you broke the 8 sec barrier what is your next challenge?

Thanks a lot, guys! Yes, I woke up with a stupid grin on my face.

OK, let me give you some more details about yesterday.

I was on the fence about going racing because it had been raining all day and I knew that either the track would be crap or that it'd get rained out. It was extremely humid (100%) and the barometer was in the toilet (29.25 - 29.35). But the temps fell into the 70s so that helped. Atco is usually prepped very well but it was mediocre, at best, last night. I totally lost it on the 3rd launch and nearly crossed the center line. My new tires had not arrived yet so I was driving on a set that was 99% gone which made it even more interesting

The car likes heat in the drivetrain so I knew not to expect much from the first pass but a 9.17 was a very good start. The car pics up at least a tenth on subsequent runs. And that's what happened as I clicked off a 9.02 on the second pass and picked up over 1 mph. I lost it on the launch on the 3rd pass and had to lift but still ran a very respectable 9.16 @ 152.

I let the car cool off for about 1 hour before I went back to the staging lanes. Everything felt right about this pass. I cut a .045 light on a .400 pro tree, 1.36 60', hooked up pretty nicely, and I just knew that I was heading to pick up my first 8 second slip. 5.77 @ 122.87 in the 1/8 mile. 8.985 @ 152.64 in the 1/4.

I made the next pass 45 minutes later. Same deal, the stars were beginning to align for me. .071 light, 1.34 60', 5.75 @ 122 in the 1/8th, and 8.968 @ 152.57 in the 1/4.

Brent was with me and he just kept nagging me to turn the boost up "one click." So he called Julio to see if we had "permission" to do so. Julio said ok and I turned the boost up to 20 lbs. So, the next two passes I'd be launching at 18 and running 20 down track. Brent is never coming to the track with me again. If it were up to him, we'd be running 24 lbs last night. He's like the devil on my shoulder.

The next run killed me. The phucking kid would NOT spray any water into the water box even though I was motioning to him that it was dry. He just kept waving me in. So what happens? The tires were so dry they wouldn't even turn. The starter noticed it, had to back me out, spray the water box, pull me back in, had to do a burnout twice because the slid sideways, etc. It was a disaster. By the time I staged, the water temp was over 190 degrees. I thought to myself "Why am I even making this pass?" My 60' suffered but I still managed an 8.95 @ 154 mph.

I made the final and best pass of the night 25 minutes later. This time I didn't pay attention to the tree but just sat on the 2 step for few seconds to make sure I had built 100% of the boost. I let go of that trans brake and she took off like a bat out of hell. My lower back was killing me last night. A decent hook up with a 1.33 60', 5.714 @ 124.24 in the 1/8th, and 8.884 @ 154.49 in the 1/4. Going down the track I glanced over at the boost gauge and it was right at 20 lbs. I knew this was gonna be a great run. When I picked up the slip I was disappointed at first because I thought I ran a 9.98 but after looking at it again I realized it was 9.88.

So, that's the story. I'm not making any predictions but I think she has at least another 2 tenths in her once the cool weather rolls around.

I can't wait for the September Vette Viper Shootout at New England Dragway!
