Default New Z06 Quarter Mile Times

Had lunch with a friend last week from Motor Trend Mag. They tested a new Z06 and it went 11.50 @ 127.1 with a full tank of gas. The story will hit the streets in the next issue. He also said it was butally fast, but noisy due to the reduction of sound deadening materials.

Thought you all might like to know. That is the official MT Mag time.

Howdy!

If it did in fact do ~127MPH, that would be pretty impressive, but would also indicate the car is putting down more power than the 505HP rating.

I used a couple of those online MPH calculators based on weight and HP, and if the car weighs in at 3300 (car + driver) they show it would take over 500RWHP to generate 127MPH trap. Also if you use the calculate ET and MPH, they show a 3300lb car with 450rwhp (assuming 450, which is probably a little high), the car should run ~121MPH.

Certainly not doubting the information posted above, but wow! If the car does run some 127MPH 1/4's, that incredible!

Let's just just say we may have put one on the dyno

And maybe we got 518hp at the tires

OMFG...if any of this is true 127mph and/or 518 at the wheels that's insane.

I was about to ask the same thing - maybe a little more clarification? Dyno sheet? Runfile? TQ figures? Dyno model?

I apologize in advance, but posters with a single post who claim to have dynoed a new Z - and indicate a HP figure 100 more than the factory which is using a new, more accurate measuring methodology - well, you can probably figure out what _my_ assumption is about the post.

But heck, fill us in with the details

I doubt this, but I will be convinced when I read it.

127MPH is a pretty good trap speed.
That’s around what I expected new Z to run.
Some C5s with ~450rwHP are running trap speeds like that. They usually have gears (3.73 and lower) and sticky tires, so I’m not sure if that means new Z will be ~450rwHP or more …..
Like I always say, ¼ times are very poor/inconsistent indicator of cars power…

Those calculators are very inacurrate, as are many chassis dynos out in the world (of course these dynos make tuners look better than they are). Proper gearing that is optimal or near-optimal given fuel consumption considerations can make a 3100-3200 pound car with 500ish hp run those times.

It absolutely does NOT mean that.
Like I said some 450rwHP C5s run times like that...

Actually ... to get 518 HP at the wheels .... would take 590 at the Fly, assuming 12% loss in drivetrain.

It is not uncommon for a C5 Z to run 116-117 mph traps. 100 HP ~ 1 mph..sound about right to me. If the average turns out to be 127 mph look for these cars to dyno 470 RWHP or so.

Geez. One of these days the actual cars will hit the road so we can end this incessant speculation.

Just listen to me!
Forget the online calculators and “100 HP ~ 1 mph” rules, etc.

Look at the real world data.
This is how it is - ~450rwHP can run these times, but like I said there’re tons of other variables….

No.

The new SAE Certified Net HP rating requires that all production vehicles be within 2% of the advertised rating. So the Z06 would have to be in the 495 - 515 HP range.
