L98 Exhaust question.. Sounds Needed

L98 Exhaust question.. Sounds Needed
OK.. I've got a 90 coupe, auto, and want the best sounding exhauust that I can get, and only want to spend about 250 to 300 dollars. What do y'all thing about a catless front y pipe going into a Dynomax bullet muffler, and then out through muffler elims on the stock rear y pipe? This is a weekend and good weather only car, and I want it to be very loud when my foot is on the floor, but ABSOLUTELY DESPISE RASP!!! Alittle resonance is no big deal, as long as I can still talk to my hottie in the pass seat doing 80 down the interstate without yelling. Anyone with any good advice on setups, combinations, etc, feel free to chime in. If anyone has sound or vid clips of the above setup, or any others that you think I might be interested in, please post.

Second time I've seen that vid. good stuff.
I've got the same to deal with. '90 L98 auto. I think I'm going to purchase the L98 setup Corsa offers for around $800. gives something like +141% better air flow, and has low resonance in the cabin at cruising speeds. But at WOT it unleashes a raging sound that I hear has no rasp. I'm pretty sure flowmaster has the rasp you aren't looking for, but not sure. God speed

Im cheap what can I say... :D...... VID INCLUDED
Well I bet I can say I have the cheapest full custom exhaust out there or mabey. Here's what I got on my 91 L98 exhaust wise:
new custom 2.5 piping(true duals) all the way back- 60$
Eliminated cat/pre-cats--
Custom x-pipe- 20$
Flowtech Manual Cutouts of Ebay- 45$
x2 "universal Borla Pro XS' Mufflers of ebay new: 90$
tips---- (previous owner had tips welded on this car, and i liked the look so kept em)
total: 215.00$ roughly
--------------
keep in mind this could be done even cheaper! but i wanted cutouts for every now and then, so bought some manual ones, rather then the topnoth electric qp cutouts which go for around 300$ if i remember right. A x-pipe or at least h-pipe is a must i would say. Sounds a lot smoother at wot and supposedly helps a bit with HP, who knows,,, not me.
OH!!! also completely forgot to note. I do have LT Headers also, so that made some difference in sound as well, more of a low rumble i guess... definetly an impovement on sounds/ hp,tq gains
Here's the Vid: www.rf-productions.com/C4ExhaustCFforums.wmv
sorry I don't have inside video of the cutouts as well. I personaly like the borla sound better,,, but the cutouts can be a lot of fun at certain times too...

Corsa sure has it down with elimination of the resonance....don't miss my FlowBlasters at all!!!

I recently had my stock mufflers cut out and had flowmasters put in their place, and they welded my LT1 tips on for me.
I am sooo stoked. I can't get over how cool its sounds(DEEP and SMOOTH) no rasp, no popping, and no rattles. It does have more resonance than stock, but I like that too. It's like having the bass turned up on your stereo, but it's your engine...How cool is that?
The best part was the price...installed-$187
GOOD LUCK

This is my custom exhaust done by Mufflex: TPIS headers to 3in. pipes into a flowmaster Y pipe to a single modified carsound cat (opening made significantly larger) outto another 3in flowmaster ypipe then 3in all the way back to magnoflow 3in straight thru mufflers with dual tips welded in place.

Hey GlennS87, does NJ allow you to switch to true duals if she passes the sniffer or is the visual too strict? If permitted, I'm thinking true duals with dual cats would be the performance ticket for your 383.
I recently had Denny custom build a new 3" rear Y and we discussed true duals with those tiny new bullet cats.

Jim,
I don't believe that NJ has an issue with true duals because I have never had a visual done at inspection time. I asked Denny for a true dual set up with twin bullet cats but he said I would be better off with the system he recommended. It's kind of like a true dual where that cat acts as a crossover. They opened up the entry and exit point on the cat to about 5 or 6 inches.

Here's a clip of my mostly stock 1990 L98 with an 80 shot of juice a while back when I first got into the 12's.
This is with Hooker 2149 long tubes, no pre cats obviously with the LT'S, a freeflow cat and monza mufflers from MAD-Vette.
