As far as the C5 goes (went). Just get the convertible, put on rear brake cooling ducts, wheels, do a heads and cam, get the intake and the rail covers and walla you'd have it!

Actually, you wouldn't even be close.

If rigidity of the frame is the issue, and the coupe can't have a removable section, that would suggest that the Z06 frame isn't about to be used in the coupe or the vert any time soon.

The old Z-06 was never going to be a convertible either right? I would say about 2 or 3 more years and the standard C-5 Vert will likely have the power of the new Z-06. Just like the current Vert has the power of an old Z-06. It won't be a Z-06 Though.

Of course, people who haven't even worked on the frame argue otherwise.

The question might be will they offer the 427 in a C6 convertible-many do not care if it carries either the Z06 order code or the aluminum frame.

I think that is doubtful. They need to differentiate the cars to sell the Z06, and the 427 is one major way to do that. For most people, the C6 with 400 hp is plenty fast.

What so many people seem to miss is the real differences between the Z and non-Z C6's. It is not only an engine and frame but brakes, body weight, steering, carbon fiber, wheels, etc. It is a very different car with very different properties. The stiffness of a car's body can not be underestimated in terms of how it effects handling and feel.

The body line is is you want a car to feel and perform like the Z06, you had better buy the Z.

I own an 02 electron blue z06 that I had made into a convertible and it is the most amazing car I have ever owned. Its lighter than a standard z and with almost 421 hp to the rear wheels and a curb weight of 2980lbs its a blast. No frame concerns,no fitiment concerns,no flex or groaning just absolute satisfaction. Want one? call 8138793833 ask for mike and tell him andreh sent you.

Of course, the C5 Z06/hardtop doesn't use the roof as a frame support--only the hoop (as does the Coupe.) But the C6 Z06 does use the roof as a frame support.
