Default Retarded license plate frame question

I purchased my Vette from my mother after my father died a couple of months ago. Due to certain circumstances, the vehicle just became available to be registered in my wife and I's name. We also got our new plates at the time of registration. Upon trying to take off the old plate and put the new one on, I couldn't figure out how to get the black license plate surround off of the plate so that I could take it off/put the new plate on (rear plate). There are no screws (that I can see) holding it on (other than the ones physically holding the plate to the car, which I removed). I'm assuming they're just clips that hold it on. I also assume this is the stock license plate surround. When I tugged on it, it felt like if I pulled much harder it would break, so I'm apprehensive to go this route.

Anyone have any advice?

There are 4 tabs that need to be pushed in. Try to do one corner/side at a time. Don't push too hard they only need to move about 1/4 inch.
