Default Steal this 99 6spd vert...with Supercharger

Well, this somewhat sucks, but I know I'll get another Corvette someday....selling the car after only 1 week from getting it back from Cartek...buying a home and gonna need the money.

Aggressively priced at $31,000 obo for forum members....I'll list it at $31,550 on eBay. It is definitely for sale (obviously by the price)....not one of the "Gauging interest if anyone wants to buy" kind of posts.

I am listing it here to give the opportunity to my other forum members. I will give it a week and then if there's no solid interest I am listing on eBay (my ID there is MKM2472). So the following is the full write up that I would be listing there. Brace yourself....it is very long!!!!

There are 50 pics from all diff ways in this link. Note where it says Page 1....there are 5 pages of pics...you have to switch the drop down to the different pages.

http://groups.msn.com/Morgenfruh/shoebox.msnw?Page=1

==========

OK, enough mumbo jumbo, let’s get to the car.

GOT BOOST?!?!?!?!?…you will now!!!!

The car is a 1999 Chevrolet Corvette convertible with 51k miles, VIN# 1G1YY32G7X5102294. Well, as is my way 345 original hp was not enough. So I decided to do almost everything you could think of to make it go faster, handle better, brake better, and look better than stock, including a supercharger. So even though the car overall has 51k miles (which in itself is 21k less than average for a 1999 car), the upgraded parts have far less mileage than that. I have done my best to list the mileage and/or age on those parts. If I missed something, just ask. So now, $35,000.00 in mods (yes 35K!!) later I am looking to purchase a home and alas my baby must go.

This car is fast. Seriously fast. 512 horsepower to the rear wheels (that’s 603 at the engine) and 497 torque to the rear wheels (that’s 585 at the engine). It just came back from getting a new full exhaust, chassis tunnel brace, and alcohol injection kit from Cartek. The car just dyno’ed 500 rwhp and 485 rwtq. Disappointing to see the number lower, but please keep in mind that was on a 98 degree day with a lot of humidity whereas the other numbers listed above were in 70-degree weather. While at the tuner it had all major serviceable items completed, cleaned hi-flow air filter, oil change, new spark plugs, new spark plug wires, coolant flush and fill, and the rear differential fluid changed. If you get this car down to race weight, you are buying a 10 second quarter mile car!!!!

I am well aware that one never gets the value back that they put into modifying their car. It is done mostly for one’s personal enjoyment. I’ve considered that in the pricing of the vehicle. At the time of posting this for sale (7/11/05) the values listed on the three major car-pricing sites (my zip of 08873 was used):

Kelly Blue Book (www.KBB.com) lists the trade in/private party/retail sale values as $20,850/$24,580/ $28,470.

Edmunds (www.edmunds.com) lists the trade in/private party/retail sale values as $21,611/$24,520/$27,691.

NADA (www.nada.com) lists the trade in/retail sale values (they don’t list a private party value) as $24,250/$27,875.

So using the averages of $22,237/$24,550/$28,012 and desiring 25% of my costs spent upgrading the car (which is exceptionally reasonable to lose 75 cents of every dollar), I set the buy it now at $31,550 which is the average private party value plus $7k (25% of the mod costs). I feel that is exceptionally reasonable.

Now how about a list of what’s been done to the car???

Exterior:
·Carvaggio blower hood (freshly painted and installed in May 2005)
See it here…http://www.caravaggiocorvettes.com/DEV/exteriors2.html
·Brand new Mid America Subtle Spoiler (new, unpainted and not installed). It is black and goes on with double-sided tape.
See it here…..http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=1.41.6365
·Stainless front and rear “Corvette” letters (like new)
·Frame savers to protect the underside of the car.
·Front frame wheels to protect the front from scraping on entry/exits.
·Thin spoke aftermarket wheels (machined face/black barrel)---near flawless…not a nick, scratch, or any curb rash AT ALL!!!! (bought new in February 2005)
·Front tires are 245/45ZR17 Contisport 2 with 5-6 32nds tread (more than half)
·Rear tires are 285/35/ZR18 Nitto Drag Radials with less than 1k one them. (Bought new in February 2005)
·There are no tire pressure sensors installed.
·Billet Ls1 “Supercharged” Fender badge (tough to see the word “Supercharged” in the pics.
·9 piece blackout kit for front turn signals, rear brake light, reverse lights, and four round rear lights.

Interior:
·Converted to black from grey
·BEL 985 radar detector hard wired on/off to the left map light switch (1 yr old)
·Dual gauge pod on a pillar with Autometer backlit boost and fuel pressure gauge and a shift lite set to go off at 6500rpms for the car’s 6800 rpm redline
·Heads Up Display conversion (HUD)---displays speed, rpms, fuel level, coolant temps, oil pressure, high beam indicator, blinker indicators displayed on the windshield for safer driving. (conversion done in March 2005) NOTE: In doing the conversion I found that my stock gauge cluster was not HUD ready-GM made all clusters HUD ready in late 1999 production run, but my car must have missed that---therefore, I had to get a new gauge cluster---the current cluster reads appx. 17,900 miles but the vehicle original mileage is a true 51k miles. This can be reprogrammed at the dealer for about $50. I can do it before the car is picked up, or the Buyer can do it after pickup….Buyer’s choice)
·Billet silver gauge bezels (2 yrs old)
·Black floor, trunk, and trunk lid liner mats with silver C5 logo (2 yrs old)
·MGW silver and black shift **** an e-brake handle. (1 yr old)
·Full car heat and sound insulation (Done April 2005)
·Alpine singe CD Head unit with line out for iPod and iPod connector (no iPod) (installed March 2005) iPod interface never used
·Window Valet from Top Down Technologies)—a must for the convertible (6 months old)
·JL Audio 6.5 inch component speakers in custom template in door. (Installed June 2005)
·Infinity 12 inch subwoofer in stealth sub box under rear trunk floor (Installed June 2005)
·Pioneer amp (4 x 75 rms) for components (installed February 2005)
·JVC Signature amp (300 rms/900 peak) for subwoofer (Installed February 2005)
·Z06 tire inflator kit (GM original equipment on Z06-$500 new)-never used)
·Vette Net wind deflector (3 months old)
·Carpeted trunk partition divider (3 months old)
·Extra aftermarket cup holder
·Light/switch panel in ashtray door for alcohol injection kit (1 week old)

Electrical/Fuel System:
·Optima Yellow Top deep cycle battery (Bought new February 2005)
·Racetronix fuel system (9k miles- 1 yr old)
·MSD Boost a Pump for additional fuel (9k miles- 1 yr old)
·Brand new GM performance plug wires (1 week old)

Drivetrain:
·Cartek clutch with adjustable master cylinder (14k miles---never raced)
·3.73 rear end with hardened output shaft (one of the weakest driveline links) built directly from the OEM supplier Getrag. Note: Getrag will not build a unit with any gear more aggressive than a 3.73 for durability and long life.
·Hurst short throw shifter (2 yrs old)

Exhaust:
·Dynatech Supermaxx long tube headers, high flow cats, and x-pipe. (less than 3k miles)…bought directly from LG motorsports…couple of their customers had some take offs with low mileage. (Only on my car for 1 week.)
·Corsa Indy Catback exhaust with pro tips (less than 4k miles)
·This exhaust setup is EXTREMELY LOUD!!! Much more so than I thought it would be. So I am including a stock Z06 titanium exhaust if you want less noise. I like it loud and if I were keeping the car I think I’d switch in a few months but the car does sound incredible.

Engine:
·Vortex Air Intake (20k but just cleaned one week ago)
·Ported MAF (20k miles)
·80mm Throttle Body (20k miles)
·PCV Mod to catch oil from PCV system before it’s routed back into the motor (stupid OEM design and not good for boosted motors)
·Cooling mist alcohol injection kit injecting pure methanol just past the MAF to cool the intake air charge. (Kit on car for 1 week!!!) You could go to a larger single injector nozzle and get 20-30 more Hp from it according to the tuner. However the car is perfectly tuned by Cartek in its present state.
·Brand new NGK TR6 spark plugs (on car for 1 week)
·Brand new GM Performance plug wires with Koolsox (Wires are 1 week old!!!)
·Fresh oil change, coolant flush and fill, and rear differential fluid change (done 1 week ago)
·HD double roller timing chain.
·Magnuson supercharger with smaller 2.8 pulley pumping out 9-10# of solid boost. This is the twin screw blower that gives you this power at 2500 rpms as soon as you mash the pedal. The car has near 450 torque at the wheels at 2500 rpms!!! And you wonder why I bought the drag radials???? TRACTION!!!! (Blower has 14k miles)
·Cartek stage II heads and cam. If you know anything about Cartek’s heads then you know they have the fastest naturally aspirated C5 and C6 in the COUNTRY, and a couple other fastest something or others in the country. These heads and cam are top shelf. These heads have dual valve springs (Not that I needed them but I wanted them for peace of mind) (9k on the heads when freshened up in June 2004-14k on the cam—it was inspected at Cartek in June 2004---I blew my stock motor and had the cam swapped to the new motor) (New this Head and cam package alone costs over $3k!!!!)
·ARE Forged motor (Ross boost pistons, file-fit moly rings, Lunati Pro Billet (the upgraded Lunati rods that are over $1k for rods alone), stock refinished crank, race bearings) (9k miles on motor!!!---was installed brand new June 2004)
·Silver stripes and Corvette word on fuel rail covers

Brakes and Suspension:
·Cross drilled and slotted, zinc washed rotors (9k miles)
·Stainless lines (9k miles)
·Brake calipers painted black with “Corvette” in silver (need to be repainted)
·Hawk performance brake pads (9k miles)
·Breathless Coilover shocks (9k miles)…these are the best suspension upgrade you can do to you the corvette. It eliminates the transverse leaf spring that does not do very well on the car. These coilovers let you adjust the ride height and tune the suspension so that you can get a near perfect balance of load on each corner for a truly neutral handling car
·T1 sway bars…these are the same sways as the C5R uses….with these sways and the coilovers you can hunt corners all day and will be amazed at how the car handles. (Installed March 2005)
·Chassis tunnel brace (stiffer stainless steel piece that replaces the stock, flimsy, aluminum piece—it is also ceramic coated to reflect heat away from the cabin).

Extra Parts I’m including:
·Z06 titanium exhaust in case the ones on there are too loud for you (you wimp!)
·Part modified Silver and Black GTO fuel rail covers (In keeping with the silver and black color scheme of the car I cut off the GTO letters and was going to epoxy the area, sand it, and get the stainless “Corvette” letters like on the front and put these on over the others)
·Z06 rear brake cooling ducts (not the screens just the ducts)
·Wolf car cover in excellent shape
·Right Door Control Module
·New black sun visors
·Rear trunk walls in black
·AMW LS1/LS6 Head Catch Can Bracket and brand new, hi polish oil catch can (both brand new, never installed)

So what’s wrong with the car, you ask? Here’s the minor stuff, there is NO major problems….
·Front fog light opening needs a good cleaning…there is residue glue from the Velcro strips when I had the Z06 front screens installed. (see pic)
·Door to the cup holder has one side snap broken off…it still closes and operates as it was intended.
·Little nick on passenger side door panel (see pic)
·Small paint chip on passenger door (see pic---it’s the one the looks like the pic is of a burgundy town car, but that’s just the reflection…..niiice finish, huh? Well the chip is seen in the pic just above the white parking line)
·You’ll see the blue hose running from the windshield washer tank that holds the methanol for the injection kit. I was at one point thinking about adding a little flash of blue to the car like the calipers, fuel rail covers, etc. so I got the blue hose. It can either easily be changed or covered with some black or silver flex loom hose.
·Right door as been giving me intermittent communication problems; I am unsure if it’s the right door control module (for which I’m giving you a free spare…costs over $200 new) or if it’s the wiring harness. What happens is from time to time the right door will not respond to switch commands such as lock/unlock, mirror, or window. Some of the sometimes a message appears on the DIC on the gauge cluster. Usually after a few minutes it resets itself. Sometimes when I wiggle the wiring accordion that goes from the door to the body it stops immediately.
·Trunk lid liner could use some reattachment….just to make it look better.
·The HVAC vents don’t change when you change the ****. I took it apart and fixed the vacuum line that had a cut in it, but it’s not responding. It may be another vacuum leak somewhere.
·When I changed the interior to black the seat belt third point attachment nuts behind the door openings were a pain to get off. I forgot to have the shop undo them and attach it. It’s just two nuts, but they are some tough nuts!!!

Payment Stuff:
My feedback is 100% positive on eBay. Everything I state about the items I sell is 100%. This car is being sold as is, as described. It does not currently have a warranty nor is one expressed or implied with the sale of this car. The car is available for inspection, just let me know at least 24 hours in advance of when you’d like to come see it. I will also deliver the car to a local Chevrolet Dealer of your choosing so that you can have them check it out for a clean bill of health. However, you must arrange for payment to the dealer. Please give me at least 24 hours notice to drop off the car.

I owe a balance on the car so the payment process would be pretty standard. The transaction must be completed within 10 days of auction close. Your bid is a contract and flake out buyers will be handled in accordance with eBay policy and under the appropriate contract law(s) of the State of New Jersey. Buyer and I meet at a local bank of mutual agreement. I prefer Wachovia. In front of the bank notary the buyer presents a certified check for the full purchase price. The bank will verify funds are held to cover the check. Once that is completed I provide a letter of sale and ownership with the details of the transaction noted. We both sign and have the document notarized at the bank. A second letter provided by the buyer stating that he/she has insurance coverage on the car, including the name of the insurance company, the policy number, the name of the insured and the make, model, and VIN# of the car must be noted on that document. As the seller it is my responsibility to ensure the vehicle transfers ownership with insurance.

The buyer takes possession of the car and a notarized copy of the sales agreement and transfer of ownership. My tags are removed from the vehicle. The notarized letter will serve as temporary registration of the car. Using a portion of the money provided I will pay off the car by sending that payment overnight to the finance corporation. It typically takes 4-6 weeks to get the title, at which time I will sign it over to the buyer and overnight it to the buyer’s home address. Using that title the buyer goes to their state’s motor vehicle bureau and registers the car. Please do not ask me to list any sales value for the car on the title other than the exact amount that was paid.

Thanks for Looking....feel free to ask any and all questions.

Gtrain....thx for the props...I tried to approach my listing as if I were a serious buyer and what I'd want to know about the car.

Wicked...I understand...thanks for the compliments on the car.

Well if it only gets to $25k on eBay it will sell, but the whole idea of the auction is obviously to get more.....someone might just steal it at $25k. I'd take $28k with only a $500 good faith deposit and I will end the auction and give up the chance that it will go higher. But, the $1k off I have listed on Ebay for using the Buy It Now option would not apply to the $28k....duh, I know, but I've got to say it.

BTW for all...as you can tell I am seriously selling the car....I've received a bunch of compliments on the ad as it pertains to the thoroughness and detail. So thanks to all for that.

I missed posting one thing here that you will notice in the auction on eBay....passenger seat adjustment bar was broken off....underneath are three little ****/button type things...seat still easily adjusts and moves every way it should with ease. Driver side power seat track is tempermental as it related to the gears....it will move and adjust as the seat should, just sometimes needs some coaxing.

Awesome car at an awesome price .
I'm definitely going to bid on it .

Had a couple questions...
Is the supercharger intercooled?
Do you have the receipts for all the work/parts?
Who is ARE? (please excuse my LS1 ignorance, never owned one before)

Thanks.

69Roadster....thanks for the kinds words...no prob on the questions, ask as many as you like.

The supercharger is not intercooled....that's the reason why I went with the alcohol injection...actually the intercooler is not a good idea...magnuson came out with the intercooler and stated the horsepower numbers were higher with it...however they went to a smaller pulley versus the stock pulley on the non IC version and I feel that's how they got the power. If you look at the intercooler setup there are a few things wrong.....the heat exchanger near the radiator is too small to keep up with the cooling job, the coolant tank goes over your battery and its coolant volume is not enough to keep up, the intercooler itself is smack in between the intake and blower creating a flow restriction for air (ie, less power), it's too small to do a good job, and it soaks up the heat from the motor quickly. Also, in doing your search, there was at least one other guy who had a weld break on the intercooler and coolant went all over the motor (if I recall correctly, please check)...do the search, you'll see I've been posting that info for a while, not just making it up now.

For these reasons I did not go for the intercooler retrofit that Mag offers for about $1800 plus shipping back and forth...but if it's important to you it's always and option for you.

now obviously take this with a grain of salt since I'm the seller, but do a search yourself on here and you'll see what I mean.

As for receipts....I have every single receipt for every stitch of work done and part bought except for perhaps a few small parts. I have a file about 3 inches thick....includes the motor receipt, blower, all work done, all installation and tuning, dyno charts, etc. It will go with the car...

Also, something else I didn't mention in the listing...I have a laminated window sticker for this car, a 1999 dealer brochure, the manual, and a laminated build sheet from Bowling Green for the car when it was going down the line being built.

ARE is the builder of the motor...I am not sure but I think they used to be a supporting vendor here but ran into management problems, changed hands a few times, and then disappeared. I have the build sheet and receipt from the motor. I bought it new from a guy on Long Island and had it inspected and then installed at Cartek June 2004.
===

abnormal vetter...thanks...I'm sure I am pissing off a lot of other sellers by the pricing but it's got to go and I'm not looking for a long drawn out process that takes months to find a buyer that's willing to pay 35-40 because it's "exactly" what he wants...priced to sell!!!!!

Thanks for the reply. Good info.

I'm also curious about the drop of power with the alky install... Was the 500/485 SAE corrected? Was any extra tuning done (upping the timing etc) to take advantage of the new cooling? Don't get me wrong... 500 at the wheels is still enough to put a smile on my face ... I just would have thought though that injecting the motor would of increased power instead of reducing it.

I think the very long primaries and short collectors of the Supermaxx setup took the numbers down a little as compared to the breathless longtubes, 3" cats and Borla XR1 center section exhaust I had changed from while at the shop.

Actually the alky did add power....other than the small drop the new exhaust may have made, it's the difference in the temps (close to 30 degrees ambient higher) from last year's dyno tune (512/497) to this year's (500/485) that represent the lower numbers (12/12) with the alky almost completely offsetting that loss due to heat.

Essentially it kept near the same power levels after 15 or 16 dyno pulls with the alky but in temps near 30 degrees higher.

Julio at Cartek is a great tuner and he went about it this way....

He tuned the car before spraying alky....there were 11 or 12 dyno runs for that....that number of runs and the heat building up in a closed area only showed like 463 hp to the wheels on the last run tuning without alky...(I forget the tq # but have it at home for the 11th or 12th run without alky)... so the heat plus the minimal impact from the new exhaust caused a drop of 49hp.

Then he tuned with the alky and it jumped to 500/485 even in the higher temps showing the alky added 37rwhp. He also stated that the kit could use a larger injector nozzle for more alky and he thinks there's another 20-25hp to the wheels with the larger nozzle and better cooling to be had with it.

So following that line of reasoning if the temps were the same from year to year the 512/497 would have stayed relatively the same (but for a small change because of the new exhaust) and the alky would have added 37rwhp plus tq# I have at home for a new power number of 549. And the potential for the larger nozzle to add 20-25 more might have close to 575 rwhp.

Now I doubt that it's that straight line or simple of a calculation, but just trying to lay it all out for you that the alky did do the trick....

any chance you would want to sell the rear spoiler by its self (if the new buyer does not want it)?

More Than Zero

PS selling a moded car sucks, I would have sold all the mods off and then sold the car. you would have ended up with more money I think.

anyway good luck and I hate to see you sell.

If the buyer is not interested I'd def sell....won't be of use to me....

yeah it's been a yoyo ride about sell, don't sell, part out, don't part out...problem I saw with parting out was having to get everyone interest in the parts lined up first, keep the early people waiting and likely to bail out when it ends up taking so long, and then try to have it all done one shot....then ship all that stuff....or make it a long drawn out process and the car be in near perpetual disassembly.

Well we'll see....you can always buy the whole package, keep the spoiler and resell the car and everything else.....

ARE is still alive and kicking.

I'm not sure if they're big as they used to be but they recently re-located within Toronto and had some management changes.

Still make some bad-*** C5s and F-bodies.

Good luck with your sale. Someone will get a permanent smile on their face really soon.
