Default K&N oil filter warning

I changed the oil in my C6 Vert yesterday and I decided to use the K&N oil filter HP 1007. All went smothly and when I finished and checked for leaks I noticed that the 1" bolt into the filter to aid in installation sticks 1/2" below the oil pan, that makes it the lowest object under the car, NOT GOOD, road trash could catch on the filter and rip it off the engine. I removed it and installed a Mobil1 -107 For what its worth

I just got the AC Delco UltraGuard, still PF44 from PFYC as Pep Boys and Kragen never heard of "UltraGuard".

I just checked mine. It is lower bit more like a 1/4 of an inch. The front air damn looks lower so I am not gonna worry about it.

Check out the [acdelco.com] web site for the independent service center featuring ACDelco parts. Like you, I also got mine from PFYC.com. However, the new part number for the oil filter is: ACDelco Part # PF46.

Not surprised that the major automotive stores never heard of ACDelco's premium oil filter.

I am not surprised that AC Delco is listing PF46. It's an obsolete filter that has not been made for close to 2 years now. I hope everyone is not relying upon AC Delco's site for part info. Corvettes switched over to the smaller PF44 filters when the PF46's were discontinued. Try the Mobil1 oil filter - great flow and best filtering available (see bobistheoilguy.com)

If that's true, what can you believe if you can't believe the ACDelco web site? I can't speak for "everyone" but I was relying on the ACDelco web site to provide me with current/updated information product information. If a company can't keep its web site updated it's time to change products. If there is some confusion as to the correct part number, I agree with you and I will switch to using the Mobil 1 oil filter. Another reason why this forum is a valuable source of information.

You got it backwards. PF44 was the initial filter for LS1s. It was superceded by the PF46, I believe in the 03 model year. Since AC Delco doesn't make an Ultra PF46, we still use UPF44s.

The owners manual states PF44 which was replaced by the PF46. My car came with the PF44 (must be trying to use up the stock).

If you were able to get the discontinured PF46, using it is fine. The PF44 replacement filter is slightly smaller. However, on your next oil change, pick up a Mobil1 M-107 and compare the filters & check out the oil filter study.

You're correct. I checked my owner's manual & it's like you said. PF44 was the original fitler & yes, it was superseded during the 03 model year. Sorry for my f.u.
