CLUE me in...has GM ever used the "SS" designation with the Corvette???????? The "SS" name has a great history (and this coming from the keyboard of a Ford guy-but a Corvete owner with 50 books on all the makes of the 'muscle car era' at home)...

This is plain wrong of GM to try and squeese the Corvette into the current 'retro' world by putting the SS name plate on the car.......call it a ZR1 but not an 'SS' (if SS has been used with the Corvette previously please advise and I'll shut up).

GM--wanna go retro--build the damn NOMAD...small wagon with the LS7 in it....now that would be the way to go retro.

The mag said that the Corvette was actually the first car to bear the SS name, although I believe it was on a race car and not a production car.

The render does indeed look very cool, basically a C6-R built for the street. They also suggest hp might climb as high as 600, don't remember if they said anything about NA vs FI.

For what it's worth, I was speaking with a customer at my dealership today who works for a machining plant and he says that they have all kinds of wild stuff there. He said they have LS7's that they are fooling around with and also said that they are working on a new engine for '08, he said 600 hp, but he didn't know for sure what vehicle it was going into but it was for the General.

I really hope GM goes ahead and does build this Super Vette, it would be so exciting to have a Corvette so powerful and such a threat to any exotic out there. I would hope that with such a performance car they would also step up the quality of the interior materials and just sharpen things up a little bit. A Corvette with Carrera GT performance and an improved interior would be fantastic.

GO GM!!!!

This was posted over a year ago by Motor Trend:

"The Corvette team has cooked up a Ford GT fighter known internally as the "Blue Devil." Packing a supercharged 427-cid V-8 and extensive carbon fiber, the Blue Devil is being considered for production."

The comments and picture above are correct. When I was a crash test engineer in the late '60's, a test car got delivered to the MPG, but nobody could find it. I was looking for it at the old farmhouse "once was a weather-station" outdoor storage parking area. Some cars had been there a long time, with wet leaves all over their car covers. I pulled one off, and it was the Duntov "Sebring" Corvette SS shown in the picture above. Another one covered one of the five C2 Corvette Gran Sports. I don't know which one, but it was a coupe. Outside, year around, in Michigan humid weather.

Before I got my Z I was over in Laughlin, NV and almost bought a C2 Gran Sport roadster clone at the museum. Really nice cruise night car. I guess my Z06 Z16 is a more practical daily driver and better handling car. But, man do I love those C2 Gran Sports.
Duntov made them spell "raw power and MEAN".

Sounds great.....Will it be lighter than the Z06?

Probably if they extensively used Carbon Fiber........

The GM flagship deserves a top dog power status on this planet!!!

GM needs to step up and be top dog. It is that Corvette can't make a super vette to go head to head with the GT40 production vehicle. The time is now stop playing power catch up every year. Step it up and stay on top.

Let's suppose GM "heard the people and built it". If this were to come true, I can already hear that same bunch of people then crying:

Are you *LISTENING*, GM?!?!

Because that is exactly what's going on right now with the new C6Z.

Hardware-wise, I think the C6Z will be worth every penny GM asks for it, regardless. Seriously. However, I won't be buying one because I can't get over it's lack-of-***** styling. If only the C6 had the attitude of the new Mustang...

If they do make a super-performance model, I'd like to see them call it the Corvette Z06 Zora, instead of the SS. I thought that was cool of Ferrari to pay tribute with the Enzo name.

The article indicated that if GM were to build the SS it would be a 08 model. For those who can't wait there are stroker motors available now that will deliver that kind of hp.

The new Z-O6 with a few mods will produce some mega hp for those who have "a need for speed"

And if it exist and if they build it how many are willing to pay $ 100,000 or more? That has always been the rumored price. With so much bitching, whining, and moaning about a price above $ 60,000 for the new Z06 just imaging $ 100k.

BTW the Ford GT is much more than HP. Corvette has a long way top go to play in that league.
