What I learned or confirmed about the C6 Z06 at CI-6.
A production copy will be put on a plane this coming Thursday to be taken over to the Nordschleife for an official timed run. They hope to have Jan Magnussen behind the wheel for that purpose. Publications will have the info by July if all goes according to plan.
The one being sent over is one of the first 75 Z06es that can actually be sold. That's right, there are 75 C6 Z06es as of yesterday which are considered production vehicles and will be "reconditioned" and scattered throughout the country to be sold as used vehicles.
Though it's not on the badge right now, "505 HP" will definitely be there.
The scoop allows the intake air to be within 1 or 2 degrees of the outside ambient temperature. There is no ram effect.
Dave Hill wondered aloud to us during the first unveiling where all of these internet "*****" are, as all of the people who had talked to him face-to-face were so nice.
Not Z06-related: Right now 70-80% of Convertibles are being ordered with power tops.
Dave Hill specifically stated that the C6 with Z51 has the same performance as the outgoing (C5) Z06 and that this was the reason that they needed something even better (the C6 Z06.) Don't believe me? Ask some others who were there, such as forum member (and moderator) Mr. Mojo or forum member Ruffneckxx, who were both there and heard it at the same time I did.
The base Z06 has a 3,130 lb. approximate base curb weight, and the car that I looked at which was parked in front of the Baymont, with the option package that includes NAV, had a curb weight of 3,142 lbs.
There are also 15 Z06es which have been built which will not be sold and will, one way or another, be destroyed.
Dave Hill stated that Z06es used in time trial competitions would still have a warranty, but not ones used in wheel-to-wheel racing. He suggested taking off your license plates when competing.
I asked the question about removing the roof on behalf of those here who claim that they'll do it. The overall feel of his response was that it would be an incredibly stupid thing to do and that anyone who wants to do it, doesn't know a damn thing about the Z06's structure. And he said "if someone tells you that they're going to build you an open top Z06, they don't have a clue what they're talking about." He specifically stated that the car would be "noticably flexible" if the roof should be removed. Welds would also have to be broken and the frame permanently damaged.
A max speed test will be done at TRC. It will not reach 200 MPH, but it will be higher than 186.
The radiator fan is 400 watts, versus the 350 watts in the base car.
The exhaust valve is computer controlled and will not open when just revving the engine. Sufficient RPMs and sufficient engine load is required. The exhaust valves are produced by the same company which produces the ones for Ferrari and the BMW M cars.
As for the price, he stated that we would be pleased, but that it would still be significantly more than the C5 Z06's price.

Couple of shots I took of NavyC5's DSOM C6 next to a DSOM Z06:
And looking evil:
And I'm particularly proud of this shot, taken while NavyC5's car was still parked nearby:
The damn car just looks beefy:
I was just having fun with this shot:

Those damn noobs. I knew they were having a negative effect. I'm glad Dave said something.

The car is amazing!
I won a short (20 min ride) in one while up at the NCM Sat.
Car had just come off the production line that day they said.
I forget my driver's name Ross or Russ.
He was kind enough to let me get a feel of some of that serious torque.
As Scissors mentioned above, it does not seem to appealing to attempt to remove that top.
Even with it in there you feel like the engine is going to twist the thing.
One added thing I was told is that they expect the brakes on this car to last the life of it if it is not raced.
Who's not going to race this thing.
He said something to the effect of the brakes having 20 pads in them, I don't know if that is per wheel or per what, but someone will surely clarify it for me.
I only wish I could afford one

Here's a 3D shot for those with red/blue 3D glasses. It helps you see the bulge of the fender better. Red goes over your left eye and blue over your right.
