Default Oil Press. @ 100 psi ???

I just got my car back from motor rebuild and the oil press has pegged out at 100 lbs.
The first 30 miles or so on new motor it was running normal at around 40-50 psi then suddenly jumped to 100-130 depending on eng. speed.
Does this sound like an oil sending unit problem? If so could somebody tell me what's involved in changing it out?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What happens when you first turn on the car? If it screams to 80-100 prior to starting the car then it is the oil sensor in the manifold. Good luck with everything.

Default Oil presssure sending unit

I had two go on me. You need to take off the air bridge and intake manifold. Lots of hard plastic tubing that could be brittle. Be carefull and take your time. I changed the second one myself.

If it varies with engine speed, I would be a little careful. Not sure if I would expect the sensor to be the prime suspect in that case. How does your oil pressure build when you start the car? If it goes up to about 40 psi warm (cold about 50 psi), give or take, that's pretty normal. If the gauge shoots to an immediate 100+, and stays there, I would suspect the sensor. If not, there is the possibility it may be something else. The oil pump has a spring loaded relief valve that may have stuck. Also, you could have a collapsed oil filter (there also is a relief valve in the oil filter). If i were you, I'd start off with the easy, and cheap, stuff and change out the oil filter, and go from there. Good luck to you. Hopefully it's a simple and easy fix.

Default oil pressure sensor

My sensor never moved. It went straight to 130 psi and stayed there.

I would try some simpler options first like C5XTASY suggests.

Test for a bad sensor: turn the key on to cycle the gauges but DO NOT start the motor. A bad sensor will show a pressure when the motor IS NOT running.
