Default Where do I put jack stands?

OK. I am almost embarassed to ask this, but I can't figure out the best place to put jack stands under my '76. Do I put them under the frame and just let the tires hang, or do I put the rear ones under the leaf spring. I need to get it as high as possible so that I can get the driveshaft and tranny out. Any sugesstions from the old timers?

Don't put them under the spring! Put them at the 4 points where you jack the car up - behind front wheels and in front of rear wheels under the frame rails at each side. You could also put the car up on 4 drive up ramps if you don't want to hang the wheels. Just jack it up and drop it onto the ramps.

Great information. Jack stands are only to be used on only the very front frame rails ?

I crack two different windshields jacking at those points...should you jack both sides at the same time?

YES!

If you don't lift both sides at the same time you will crack fibreglass. I do the front then the rear using the wheels as the pivot point not the frame. AND yes I have cracks in mine doing it the wrong way the first few times.

if you don't care about denting up the bottom of the car you can jack from the front crossmember to get the front off the ground evenly, then put your jack stands according to the picture. I have 2 jacks so the rear is easy, but make sure its even, you will crack something, usually the front clip.
