Default Squeaky Brakes

I have read many post on this issue but finally great weather here and had the top down the last two days and quite embarrassed that my brakes squeal so loud on a 60K dollar with 600 miles. I have read different ideas but I do have the Z-51 so is it as simple as ceramic pads and if so what is the brand of choice and forum member who sells them? I am going to paint or order from WCC the red calipers so perfect time to change the pads if it is that simple. Thanks

My Z51 coupe squeaks as much as you describe. Some forum members have spoken about doing several high speed brake manuevers in succession to eliminate the squeak. My 1998 Supra Turbo did the same thing within the first 1000 miles so I've learned to live with it. It's just the cost of doing business with high performance brakes.

Some other forum members have replaced their brakes with Baer brake systems and no longer have the noise.

Just my 0.02

I hope the 1100 mile drive home from the museum delivery will break them into a point of no squeaking !

I have Carbotech XP8 pads for track events. All you folks who think the OE Z51 pads are noisy should drive my car a few blocks with the track pads; sounds like a garbage truck! I've had people a full block away turn to see what's causing all the noise. I get no noise from my stock pads, but I have bedded them properly, and that might make a difference in the noise.

I have Z51. I have driven 675 miles and have not heard any unusual noise from the brakes. No squeaking whatsoever. Squeaking is not normal as far as I'm concerned.

Default Not squeaky...they are squealy!

This is my only complaint.

The brake squeal is embarrassing.

I am sick of it and I am going to make the dealer fix it.

I don't wanna hear all the crap that these pads are high performance and that's the way it is...

They will fix it one way or another.

Zero tolerance with this bullcrap!!

What about using that anti-squeal compound that is often provided with new brake pads. Do the stock pads on a new C6 come with this compound added? And what about just taking the stock pads out and maybe roughing them up with a file... then clean the rotos really well... then re-install the pads with some of that compound. Anyone try this?

Mine squeak too, Z51 with over 8K miles. Sounds like a car which needs a brake overhaul.

Same here (3000 miles) .... Z51 Package. Lots of sqeal at moderate to light braking. I do not hear it if I hit the brakes hard. Is there any point that this sqeal goes completely away??

My c6's brakes used to squeek too, but I took it to the dealer after 400 miles and they had it fixed after 20 minutes. Has anyone heard of a recall on these brake pads or somehting by chance?

What did your dealer do to fix your squeaky brakes?

Can you ask dealer what he did for me also. Mine squeaks under light breaking and also when breaking in reverse. Not the kind of noise want from such a good looking car.

Hahah Panther Power They have no idea.. Try PF01's if you love the noise..

In any event if anyone wants to change out their pads for something less noisy let me know, i have low cost alternatives.

Maybe Mobil One 5W30 will take care of that annoying squeak...

He cleaned the rotors! 90% of the the time squeal (or squeak) is caused by excessive dust embedded on the rotor.

Sometimes all it takes is some brake cleaner, sometimes a quick run with a resurfacing (not the same as turning) pad/disk.

Yes, it is that simple.

Default I guess I'm lucky

3000 miles and no squeaks with my Z-51 brakes. Lucky for me. I did have the bad battery and the squeaky roof though. I guess I was due for some good luck!!

RE: high performance brakes squeaking

When mine squeak, I take the car to the track*, run the snot out of it**, and the brakes stop squeaking! I am told that 5-8 hard stops from 100-0 will also grind enough of the surface of the pads to remove squeak.
