Default Looking for Dropped Spindles for C5

About 1 year ago, someone posted that they were making dropped spindles (Hub carriers) for C5 race cars. I've done a search and haven't been able to find the thread nor who it was that was making them. I have a customer that interested in them for a C5 with magnetic ride so he can lower the car without the associated issues that come up.

Anyone know where I can find them?
or if there is enough interest, should I look into make them available?

Mark,

I believe that thread was posted by Phoenix Performance and the anticipated price was about $10K. IIRC there was little interest at that price. It would be nice to have a lowered vette with full suspension travel.

I believe the 3R racing team was making and selling them. The hub is lowered in the upright by one inch, and it's CNC'd from billet aluminum vs the cast stock piece. It was $700 each, and they were also making replacement tie rods for maybe $300 each. I'm not sure where the old thread is, but if you can't find out anything thru 3R, Gary Hoffman at Hardbar will probably remember who sells those parts, or may even be able to get them for you.

LG makes them as well for the race program. Give them a buzz as well.

3R has them, but I think it is more like $1200 each!

I've found the stock spindles do just fine lowered

Last year 3-R made them for all the teams. Ask for Bob or Dax Raub, but they as well as all of the other W/C teams are insanely busy this week getting ready.

Gee John, all one needs is a one of these:

Mazak SUPER VERTICAL MACHINING CENTERS
VERTICAL SERIES - INTEGREX E1060 V8
& VERTICAL SERIES E1060 V6
Simultaneous 5 Axis Machining Centers

www.mazakusa.com

They list McLaren and Penske as 2 of their Motorsports customers (kinda high budget operations that make your point...)

My point is everybody loves the billet CNC stuff but it is expensive. Not only are the capitol expenditures high, people don't realize how much material costs have gone up in the last couple of years. The piece of aluminum stock to make that spindle is around $300 or more before you touch it with a machine, and then consider that you end up throwing away a lot of the blank in the machining process. We looked into doing a set of drop spindles, but for what we would have to charge, we did not think the market would bear it. You would be surprised what percentage of the $300 that we charge for our 100% CNC machined seat rail kits is material and subcontract machine labor.

I'm pretty sure 3R also had a setup to relocate the rear control arms as well. Can't (or shouldn't) do one with out the other.

not true, the relocated tie rod kit is to give clearance for coil-overs in the rear. However, the tie-rod kit does help adjust for bump steer (as if any of us are smart enough to start screwing around with that stuff!)
