I own 1979 Corvette and I'm searching for a proper engine oil.
Here at the European market Petro Canada oil can be bougt.
Do you know this canadian brand, any experience with it???

It's an excellent oil, but no better no worse than any other name brand. Corvettes do not require or benefit from special oils- they're production line Chevrolet cars after all.

Im from Canada and i never use that oil but i gas there often ,they claim to have better additive in there gas for the winter. There oil is just as good as anybody else,but i always valvoline in my vette .but oil is oil to me. they all have the certification aprouve for new car so it's all the same to me.

My brotherinlaw is a rep for Petro can and claims their oil is the best in the industry. He also claims that gas prices are too low and they are not making a profit.

Any oil that has an API SE (or higher -- currently SL) rating will be OK. What is most important is that you change your oil and filter on a regular basis.

I think you could do worse than Petro Can. But what else do you have to buy? There's great oil in Europe. I liked ELF when I lived there. Also Agip has a good semi-syn. I ran it in my Alfa with great results.

Funny...I used to drill for oil off of Newfoundland Canada for Petro Canada. Real nice folks to work for, but cold as heck up there....now I drill for ChevronTexaco, but use only Mobil ONE, go figure?

It's pretty common to read that a lot of European engines that are high performance require very expensive engine oil. I've read that if you buy one of the exotic Ferrarri's, the engine oil is $50 a liter. (Don't know if this is really true. I read this in Popular Mechanics magazine as quoted by Jay Leno.) Anyhow, your 1979 Corvette engine thrives on plain engine oil. Try Royal Dutch Shell or Mobil. You will absolutely have no problem. Actually, the C3 L88 engine, the pinacle of Corvette high performance, just used plain engine oil. Remember also that your 1979 engine is a large displacement, relatively low rpm engine. Nothing special is required in way of engine oil. (Except do buy quality grades from name oil manufacturers.)

Here in Edmonton, where the oil that Alberta (at least) uses is refined at one refinery. Petro Canada, Shell, Mobil, Pennzoil, Valvoline etc is refined at the Petro Canada refinery.

While travelling across the continent a few years back, I found that Mobile stations would accept Petro Canada gas cards.

I would not use Petro Canada anything and I live here...........the motor oil is not even suitable for a lawnmover..........

The oil is API approved and is refined the same way as all the other oils - to exceed North American standards.

Most Oils here are suitable, but do not use synthetic. Castrol, Duckhams etc have oils which they brand as being specifically for older engines, use one of those. As someone said earlier the important thing is to change the oil and filter regularly, every 6 months even if you are not putting miles on it.
