Default [EVENT] Spring Skyline April 30, 2005

Sorry it's taken me so long to start this thread. I'm getting bombarded w/e-mails so I guess I better get this going!

First things first:
From this point forward, we will call Spring Skyline the Hogsmak Invitational Spring Skyline Drive Corvette Cruise. There probably isn't anyone here at CF that doesn't know about our friend Mikey. So, not ever really having a charity to benefit for the spring cruise, we've decided that Mikey's charity of choice, Blue Ridge Hospice, will be our spring cruise benefactor. These fine people helped Mikey and Anne complete Mikey's final journey. Those of you that cannot make the cruise but would like to contribute to Blue Ridge Hospice may do so HERE .

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 30, 2005. We will meet at the Jack Evans Chevy used car lot on Commerce Ave at 8:30 AM, register, do goodie bags and door prizes and leave out for the cruise at 10:30 AM with a police escort through town.

Registration will be a $10.00 donation to Blue Ridge Hospice. I am seriously considering doing a pre-registration for this event as we are expecting a bazillion cars. OK, maybe 200 cars... But still - too many to register in a short amount of time. Watch this thread for updated info. 100% of the registration fees collected will be donated to BRH.

Last year we mixed thing up by cruising to Luray via route 522 before entering the park and that got lots of good reviews. Frankly, there are only so many ways to mix this thing up... So, what we're going to do this year is leave the car lot and cruise directly to Brookside in Luray via US-340. We're trying to get the police escort to get us out of town in one group. During lunch we will try for a group picture at Brookside. BTW, lunch will be the same format as in the fall; you may go inside and do the buffet or stay outside and do the BBQ. We're getting additional porta-johns as well. (Hopefully...)

Once we finish lunch, we will head up US-211 into the park and regroup at Stony Man. We may have out-grown Stony Man if you can believe that! If we have 200 cars, we will have contingencies in place for additional regrouping locations...

After regrouping, we will head down to Big Meadows to use the facilities, exchange lies, yada yada yada. Linda and I just scouted this route and the entire Big Meadow was filled w/deer. If I remember correctly, last year they had a controlled burn of the meadow and it was rather sparse. Well, this year it's baaaaaaaaaack...

I will need a few "rain or shine" volunteers this year. What I need are:

Registration helpers (2-3)

Parking helpers (2-3)

Help needs to be there by 8:30 AM the latest. If you are planning on making the cruise rain or shine and are interested in helping, please send me a note via e-mail. My e-mail is in my profile. BTW, we got 138 cars on the lot in the fall after they told us it would hold 100. Way to go IRON82! We are getting permission t line up down Stonewall Ave. like we did in the fall for the overflow. We have the option of using a lot across Commerce Ave but I'm not real keen on splitting the group up across a major highway. FWIW, we are also scouting some other meeting locations if this thing keeps growing...

I hope you all got to see the article that Andy Bolig wrote for the March issue of Corvette Enthusiast Magazine regarding the fall cruise. I've got some rather good response from that (from as far away as Kansas!). It is because of that, and the support that I know Mikey will draw, that leads me to believe that we may have a few extra cars this spring. Last fall, we had at least 20 Corvettes at the Quality Inn on Friday night. If enough people are interested, I'll try to block a group of rooms for the spring cruise. Let me know...

So, shovel the rest of the snow "out da driveway" and start getting ready to cruise! Hope to see you all there...

Jim, I am there!! I have yet to do a Spring Skyline however, this will be the year!

I will pass along the dates to Andy Bolig, if he does not have them already

4+ pages of Skyline coverage in the Corvette Enthusiast Magazine coverage - what a great time this past Fall - Thanks for all you do Jim!

Jim-

Working on getting a group of NVCC'ers to caravan down to Front Royal for the cruise. We had 30ish cars for Fall 2004, 16 or so for Spring 2004. Increasing each time! I'm hoping to get even more...

I'll be there rain or shine. And I'll stay off the road the day before.

I'll have to talk to Robin to see if she would go early enough for me to volunteer my help.

Good to see all you regulars getting ready to turn out!

I blocked 20 rooms at Quality Inn. 16 are left... Call 540-635-3161, tell them you are with "The Corvette Club" and get your room for $56.53 per night.

I'm getting ready to ride!
