"The last time we ran for time was on the 2004 Z06, which recorded one lap of 7'56". The 2005 would not be quite as good. We will be there in April with a production built Z06, and hope to get a good time for that one." Dave Hill crossedflags.com

One might also enjoy seeing www.track-challenge.com which tests the track times of over 200 cars at Hockenheim.

going into that hairpin is my favorite place to pass people, especially when you've got a passenger in the car scared to death because he doesn't realize how much better C5 brakes are than his mustang brakes
the safety factor is a major factor in how poeple drive, I know I've gone off in turn 1 (right in front of the pits) and never took my foot off the gas, just turned back on to the track and kept going.

Which car owns the Ring?
If 1DAY's info on the Ring is complete and accurate ... a big IF....
Porsche Carrera GT would appear to dominate at the Ring. Has 3 placings in the upper echelon (times 7:40 or less).
It will be interesting to see if the new Z06 can crack 7:45 mark.

I agree big time with you. Yes, if it can break 7:50 we should be happy.
The Porsche C.GT is the ultimate ...IMO. If I had an extra 500 Large ... I'd buy it in a heartbeat. ... its like BUTTA.

Yeah CGT brakes are super powerful.....
In a comparison in Automobile magazine the CGT reported the best decceleration of the group with 1.26 g's and of course shorter braking distances.......

I agree - if the new Z06 can get _close_ to the 7;45 mark, that's a huge accomplishment (take a look at the chart and compare the company it would be in).
Hmm, 100 extra HP, 75 lb/ft more TQ, much better brakes, bigger tires (though runflats) and I assume better suspension (though I suspect the suspension improvements over the previous Z aren't huge). It will be interesting.
One thing I've read (I have no hands on experience, maybe one of the posters who have been on the ring can comment), is the condition of the track is pretty rough. So overly stiff suspensions can cause unsettling in many spots. I believe this was one of the explainations of the low-ish SRT-10 times.
It's funny that some Porsche enthusiasts put little credence in ring times (even though Porsche cars are a pretty high % of the top cars). Their comments suggest that the size of the track, combined with environmental factors and familiarity of the track (especially to "local" manufacturers) skew the results a little too much.
Cheers!

I believe all of the CGT times are (or at least the worst time posted is...and it's pretty incredible)
I cannot wait to see what the Z06 can produce....stock.
