"I commited a Felony... On accident!
-----------------------------------

So busy day at work today... I get dispatched to an address with the numbers 605 to pick up a Corvette, silver in color, going to the local chevy dealership. Keys are in it, and it is in the garage. I get to the address, call back, double check the address... Yep, 605 are the house numbers. Knock on the door, nobody home. Garage is unlocked, go in. There before me is a 1970 Corvette Stingray, Silver, keys are in it. This thing is in pristine condition. Because of how the driveway is shaped I have to back the car out of the garage and get it turned 90 degrees to load it on my flat bed. ****s and giggle, check to see if it starts. Tap the gas twice and it fires right up. VERY CAREFULLY load it up and on my way. Get to the dealership, they tell me to drop it in the lot. I do so, and bring the keys back in. Talking to the service manager I comment on how this thing is a beautiful piece of american history. Runs drives ect.. Should have no prolbem.

Service guy: "Hmm, they said the battery was dead and that everything on it was electric how did I get the wheels to turn??
Me: "I dunno. Tapped the gas twice, fired it up and backed it outta the garage and loaded it up.
SG: "Nice car, but american history?? How do you figure that?"
ME: "dude, it is a 1970 Corvette Stingray, the thing is beautiful."
SG:"You were susposed to bring a Silver 05 Corvette".
I start getting worried.
Me: "Comming from 605 [streetname]?"
Him: "No 603 [streetname]

I look at the insurance papers and give him the name.. Nope, wrong name. At this point my stomache contents almost project themselves all over the service garage. A scene of the cops waiting for me when I get back, and going to county lock up are very vivid im my mind. I am pretty sure somebody is gonna rape my **** pipe. About this time a co-worker (driver) had just dropped his car that he brought in and came in on the tale end of the conversation. He has been running a wrecker for a little over 20 years. I say to him
Me: "Dave.. WTF am I gonna do?"
Dave: "Bring it back"
Me: "You are so following me, if this guy is home, I am pretty sure I am going to end up in pound me in *** prision"
Dave: "Load it up, I'll follow you back."

So I start loading it back up, nauchious as all hell. Get it loaded back up get back to the house.. WHEW nobody home... Yet. Now, because of how the drive way is shaped, and the car orientation, it had to be drivin into the garage so I unload it in the culd-a-sac.. tell Dave to drive it because I am to nervous. So he gets in it, starts it up turnes it around and it dies. 5 min. later we get it running pull it into the garage, put everything back I leave a note on the garage door to call the shop, as I shut the garage door, dave is in the driveway and says, " Fuvk.. He's home" I shut the garage door, and walk out.
The guy sees the garage door his beautiful baby is behind closing and says

Owner: "WTF is going on here?!?!" (looking at Dave)
Dave: "........(points at me)......"
Owner: "WHATS GOING ON HERE?!?!?!" (looking at me)
Me: "Sir, I made a huge mistake, I was told to come to 605 [streetname] and load a silver Corvette, load it, and take it to the dealership. I loaded it up, brought it there, and found out I was susposed to take you neigobors 05 silver corvette that is in his garage. I am soooo Sorrry. I screwed up royally."
Owner: "How did you get in the garage?"
Me: "It was unlocked, I knocked at the door, and nobody answered."
Owner: "It was unlocked?? Hmm.. My daughter is home."
Me: " I don't know sir, but It was open, there was a silver corvette with the keys in it and it figured that was the one. I with utmost sincerity appolgize. I had left you a note in your garage to call, incase somebody saw your car on my flat bed it wanted to let you know that it was a giantic mistake.
Owner: "How did you get it out?"
Me: "Tapped the gas twice, started it up and backed it out."
Owner: "It started right up?"
Me: "Yes sir"
Owner: "Cool, when I parked it last fall, it wasn't running well. I haven't messed with it yet this year to get it running. Thanks for being so honest. Mistakes happen."

I almost jumped right out of my skin and offered to blow him right on the spot. He laughed and said have a good one, you better hurry, the dealership closes in 15 minutes. SOOO I tell him to have a good day, as I back a way, bowing like a retarted chinese elder and scamper to get the neighbors car. I back in, the neighbor opens the garage door, and there is a beautiful 05 Chevy Corvette, silver, with the keys in it. She walkes out and says...
Lady: "You made a big mistake didn't ya? LOL"
Me: "Yeah, ya could say that"
Lady: "ya know, I saw you over there, and thought how odd, Mike is getting his Corvette towed the same day we need it. Wondered what he was getting done to it. How did he take it, I just saw him come home."
Me: "He was very gracious and understanding."
Lady: "Yeah, he is a pretty laid back guy, but that this is his baby... atleast he was cool.

So with utmost care, I load her car up, and bring it to the dealership.
Walk in the service guy is laughing at me. He makes a comment on how he was glad it wasn't him

SG: "Was the dude home?"
Me: "Yeah, he pulled in right as I got done putting it back"
SG: "Was he pissed"
Me: "Surpisingly not, way cool and understanding."
SG: "Damn.. Lucky.. I figured the cops would have been there"

So yeah.. That was my day.

Cliff Notes: I took a car that I wasn't susposed to, brought it back, owner was waaay cool and I got the right one."

Believe it or not, These things happen... Such as getting 2 of the same car same color in the shop and having things get mixed up.. usually it gets figured out before something happens..

What else could you do? It was an honest mistake and the driver was VERY apologetic.

If the owner left the keys in the car and garage unlocked, they should be cool. The car is just begging to be stolen. This post was great, just glad everything turned out good. Honest mistake on your part.

So if someone leaves a pile of cash sitting out its just begging to be stolen and I should boost it?
