I have a idea how to split the top from the windshield post. Place some dry ice where the roof is bonded to the windshield post area. The dry ice will super freeze the area and make the bonded area brittle and you should be able to to break it free with a putty knife. It may take several trys to get all the adhesive to break free though. I know this method works for splitting bonded kevlar honeycomb panels used for aircraft doors and walkways. This idea may work in your situation also.
Just a heads up the dry ice may crack the windshield in the process.

Going to go w/ the CF Z06 ones.
Yeah... I normally go to Jenro's then Bass Pro on Saturdays
I'd rather not crack the windshield... going to dremmel the rest off then use a soldering iron to melt the adhesive loose.

Tonight's Update: Thanks again for your help Mark
First I tackled the remaning piece of roof w/ the dremmel. Breathing SMC dust and getting it in your eyes is no fun so I wore the face mask and safety glasses for once.
Mark figured out that heating up a utility knife w/ the heat gun allowed it to cut through the remaining adhesive quite well. Followed up w/ a sticker scraper using the same heat gun technique, then some laquer thinner to clean it all up.
Much much better...
Took off the decklid for sanding...
Sanded with 600... the shiney spots are just water drying, it's all nice and smooth.
Starting to shape up... I'm excited.

So I'm curious, will the roof be cut back even further to where the "normal" C5 Targa is? Isn't it even with the rear pillars?
This is a GREAT thread, thanks for taking your time and putting these pics up, it's inspiring and (shudders) giving me ideas of cutting into my freshly painted car

The Z06 is allready setup for the parts... they start life w/ the poential to be Z, coupe, vert, etc so the b-pillar and winshield hoop have all the threaded holes and slots to mount the coupe hardware and trim, no fabrication needed.
The cut so far is just the first cut to get the roof out.

Yes... you cut the roof back, buy the p-pillar panel from a coupe, cut the front edge off of it, then graft that into the remaining Z06 roof you have. The end result is a Z06 roof modified to accept the coupe trim and weather strips etc. It's all factory parts
