Default Some very unscientific data regarding the Z06 rims vs another

I weighed my OEM rims and tires vs. my Fikse rims and Pilot Sport Cups today with a bathroom scale. I know...I know.....I may have well used a see-saw with a 50 pound kid.

Granted this wasn't the most precise way, but I just wanted to get a ballpark idea.

My OEM Rims with Stock tires at 32 psi weighed:

Fronts 275s 50 lbs
Rears 325s 58 lbs

My Fikse Profil 13 at 32 psi weighed:

Fronts 285s 18 x 9.5 45 lbs
Rears 345s 18 x 12 50 lbs

Note that my Pilots are bigger tires front and rear.

There are new rotors that should be coming out weighing 10 lbs less than stock. That's 66 pounds that we can shed with no effort.

Again nothing Earth shattering here but certainly a measurable difference.

I always think it's neat looking at weight as the book ALL CORVETTES ARE RED discussed how focused they were shaving weight in the C5 design.

I'm sure I couldn't do it, but this could be 10.99 car with Ranger driving it.

And it's unsprung weight you are shedding which has advantages over chassis weight.

Everything I plan on doing to this car will revolve around additional weight loss. The design of the stock car is as much around light weight as it is about HP.

Your wheel/tire weight savings are significant (I hope mine are similar when they finally arrive). What do you think of the 345s for the rear?

GHOFFMAN - when and where can we get your trick rotors/hats?

Thanks.

The 345s are monsters! All I can say is there is just a lot of rubber there. I have only driven on them 1/2 mile. The Pilots need heat which is tough to get from street driving without driving like an ignoramus. I ran 315s before these and they were awesome so these should be a blast.

Absolutely! The unsprung weight directly affects the handling, braking and acceleration of the car significantly more than taking the same amount of weight out of the cabin, for example.

Great place to save weight and I am surprised you where able to save so much even with wider tires/wheels. Those Fikse's are a nice deal.

I looked at some other rims before I bought these because they were expensive. I can pick up the rear rim tireless with my pinky.

how are you keeping the 345 tires from rubbing the inside of the fender? My rear stock tires on HRE rims (12") rub slightly when I have a hard bottom out.

It is also rotational mass that the drive train/brakes do not have to accelerate/decelerate. Much more better, as some people might redundantly say...

Default Sensors

I also bought new wheels and tomorrow prepraring to install them but I have also new (very expensive) sensors which I want to install but now when tried put near at place where they usually are = for ex. on brake, car still shows old data from previous sensor - even after 5minutes with engine on. Do I should hope that they will work when they will be under pressure or they need some special instalation ?
Thanks for help

I assume you are speaking about an zo6 wheels ?I just purchased a z and want to put wheels on asap and I see you put 18s on the rear what is the hieght and width difference from the factory front and rears, the 18s on the back sound like a good idea assuming we will get some drag radials on them also who knows when 19 drags will be available. thanks

Radek,

Keep an eye on the aftermarket wheels. Some make it very difficult for the OEM sensors to stay put, especially under pressure. I have a tool from Bartec USA that syncs the sensors back up. Takes only seconds.

Factory fronts are 275-18 and 325-19 rear.

I am running 285-18 and 345-18.

I bought this [URL="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaym[/URL] and I will try to use original air presure sensor, so do you this it will works? I must try it since I dont have anything else to replace with, maybe use standard ventils.
But back to question: there is no other setting of sensors requied?
Btw. all of you so lucky to have easy access to parts I payed for wheels, transport, tax, sensors 3500USD But I got it fast compare to parts from LG which Im waiting few weeks already without info (informed about delay 1week after order) but maybe result will be good when it will come...

No ebay links please, just post a pic if you need to.
