Is that because they're planning to make a lot more of them or some other reason?
Will there be a new motor that is going to be "hand assembled" at the Wixom plant?

We have no idea if the engine failures alluded to by GM Wrench are in any way related. However, I may need to consider the possibility that you're right.

I certainly appreciate that

And I do understand...I was in the Porsche camp for 20 years before buying my C5 in 2000...Corvette people are a community not just a group of car guys, so I do understand but also very much appreciate your thoughts and the post. I will forward them on to my brother.

He is schedule for tests on Wed at UAB, and then surgery on Thursday. They are going to attemp to burn the 2 tumors off with some types of needles, if that won't fly then they have to be more invasive and put a metal plate between the good and the bad for protection.

UPDATE!!!

I know I promised to stick with the facts...but I just got some info from inside sources. Nothing official but my sources are telling me that (even though the dealer said they couldn't get to it for 2 days) they pulled the codes & black box date and the engine is out.

It looks like an oil pump failure.

something disturbing about the black box data is that it said vehicle speed at time of failure was 85 mph, which is not possible. I was in heavy traffic where 2 interstates merge together and run as one for about 20 miles funneling traffic bound for Chicago from Memphis, Paducah, and Nashville. I was going 70-75.

I talked to the dealer later in the day and they said they hadn't worked on it yet. I asked them "so nothing has happen with it yet" and they siad well the tech had done some research and was thinking it was a bad oil pump.

so maybe that's were the info came from...my source is pretty close to the situation but like I said it was relayed through a couple of people so back to the wait for the fact mode.

It's hard to wait...I thought waiting for the build/delivery was hard!

The next car that is supposed to get the LS7 is a special version of the 2008 CTS-V. After that maybe
an LS7 Camaro SS.

The new motor is the supercharged LS9 for the Corvette SS in 2008.

Default black box

Gary, since you own the car, is it unreasonable to ask for the dealer to provide you with a copy of the "black box" data? It would be very interesting to understand what it provides. What parameters, does it include gps track, what is the resolution (data points per second), etc. Thanks for the updates!

Gary,if you get a chance, try to find out what part precisely failed on the oil pump. I've seen oil pump shafts sheared before...even *Woodruff* keys shear. Pics would REALLY be helpful (if you can.)

Dealer just called and they said they pulled the valve covers and found a broken valve spring. They said they would call me when they found out more.

I suspected that..........did you hear any unusual noise in the days prior to failure? Typically these valve springs will let you know prior to letting go.....

No nun at all. I drove it about 20 miles on Saturday and 500 miles on Friday evening, then 375 miles on Sunday before it gave up. The oil temps were a consistant 169 and water temps 196, with oil PSI about 50 for most of the trip.

did I miss some fine print somewhere that these cars aren't supposed to be driven for more that a couple of hours at a time?

Yes. I talked with the dealer a little while ago and they said that the spring broke and they found the pushrod bend about 30 degrees and jammbed through the top of the piston.

It also cracked the block, so they ordered a new engine. they said they also ordered an intake because it had a lot of metal partilces in it. I guess a new engine does not come with an intake?

It's coming from somewhere in Michigan (not Flint) and will be here in about 4 business days according to the dealer.
