Anyone Autocross?
I'm going to do my first AutoX this Sunday and really getting pumped about it. Anybody got any suggestions for a first timer? What to bring, wear, read, expect? I'll be on my polished alum wheels w/Goodrich KDW2s inflated to 40 lbs. Anything I need to do to the car for protection or safety?

The important thing is to have fun. Good luck.

Just relax and have fun! Too may people get caught up with competing the first time out. Study the course, you should be able to visualize the course with your eyes closed. Remember HAVE FUN!

its a vette autoX yes? otherwise you might have a tough time Xing your 6 in a course set up for miata's and mini's.
pay attention during the course walk through. particularly if there are three laps and each lap has a different path through the cones. in my first autoX i got lost by the second lap in 2 of my three races. the last race i just plowed so many cones down that they pulled me off the course.
its a great time, though. have a blast, and try not to get addicted.
oh yeah, and dont forget racers tape for your fender wells!

Yes...for almost 20 years... lots of good suggestions above...few more:
-I suggest wearing long sleeve shirt and pants...cotton...depending how sensitive your are to the sun...bring sunblock. Hat
-bring air compressor or compressed air tank and tire gauage. Also chalk if you want to watch tire scrub characteristics
-ground tarp/cover to place you stuff on...everything (including floor mats) needs to be remove from vehicle
-fold up chair... unbrella of some sort is nice. I tend to get fried out in the sun so I do focus on any sun control stuff
-water and some food..carbo type stuff
Now to the really important stuff...
-walk the course watching each gate etc as if a mental snap shot...when at speed if you are thinking about the gate coming up you are mentally behind the course...
-watch experienced drivers..what is their line and how they are approaching gates (different lines for different styles)
-ask to second seat with an experience driver...ask same driver to second seat with you
AND yes...have a ball!!!

Remember autocrossing is about finesse and practice - so do get discouraged if you have the fastest car and the slowest time. You'll get racier with experience.

If you have a manual trans, get into 2nd as soon as pactical and leave it there. No need to do a lot of shifting.

Thanks so much Guys!!!!
Those are all exactly what I was looking for. I'm kinda an Obsessive Complusive guy, you know...any thing worth doing is worth Overdoing......lol.
This may be the new addiction to replace golf, we'll see. But mostly I'm looking to improve my skills and learn more about how to handle this car better.
Great sites docrings! Yep, Mayonase, there's all kinds, couple of Vettes. This is a Novice School with the San Antonio car group, lots of instuctors so maybe one can ride w/me.
Thanks again all!
