Default C6ZO6 corner weights

I scaled my new C6Z today, the total weight with a completely full tank was 3186 pounds so figure 16 gallons at 7.4 pounds per gallon means it is 3068 pounds empty! It was 51% front, 49% rear, 49.5% left, 50.5 % right with no driver. The front caliper was 7 pounds with no pads, and the front rotor was a rediculous 25.5 pounds! For reference, a Wilwood 14 x 1.25 rotor is 17 pounds without hat and the hat is 1 pound.

Interesting. Especially the 51% front bias with a full tank. I assume the radiator coolant and engine oil is not counted by GM "Dry weight" number. GM needs CF hood, front fenders, roof and aluminum rotor hats. Blue Devil?

Do you have 2LZ?

OK, at 6 pounds per gallon add 20 pounds, and the fenders are CF. Yes, I do have 2LZ...

GM doesn't quote "dry weight" like motorcycle manufacturers.

GM quotes "curb weight", which is all fluids including gasoline to capacity. Somewhere they also quote "shipping weight" which is all fluids except gasoline to capacity and 3-4 gallons of gasoline - whatever the current plant fill.

You're right. I do remember now reading those descriptions in my service manual. Now, I'm even more puzzled about the actual numbers.

Does the Z have CF front fenders or just CF "inner fender liners"?

3-4 gallons seems about riight, my car came with a 1/4 tank. The inner fenders are some thermoplastic. The fenders are CF.

Nice numbers...good to see that the published numbers are pretty accurate.

(check some motorcycle claimed weights - they must fill the tires and gas tank with helium)

Ok, fair enough, that seems like a 1/2 tank of gas number. The good news is GM is quoting accurate or even conservative numbers in their spec. Impressive in any case, cheers to Chevy on this spec.

No, that is with the 2LZ package! I love the Nav system, I wish my truck had it.

I mean the curb weight posted by GM is without optional equipment...

I wonder what is the weight of the base C6 sliding calipers?

Both.

I'm sure the base calipers and rotors are much lighter. Regardless, it's weight on the Z06 that's well spent. For track driving, there's no more important component on the car than the brakes, except maybe the tires. :-)

The C6Z calipers are lighter due to not having a steel bracket, but the rotors are heavier. The rotors have a lot of wasted weight in the center or "hat" area. In addition, they are the same left and right so the RH rotor has the vanes going the wrong direction, and in fact, the rotor on the right has left stamped on it! The Wilwood rotors and hats are available from us now but they are really expensive.

I must clarify the inner fender question, because at the risk of sounding like Bill Clinton, it depends on what your definition of "inner fender" is. The inside of the engine compartment that can be considered an "inner fender" is fiberglass because I can see a couple of fibers where a hole was cut into it and it is a glass fiber. Other parts of the inner fender like where the tire flings stones etc, is a low modulus thermoplastic like polypropylene, that is used for the air dams, rear mud flaps, etc.

Heavier rotors aren't the end of the world. Yes, it's more unsprung weight, but it's weight well spent. Heavy rotors will absorb and dissipate heat better, and last longer, than lightweight rotors. (If we're talking metal and not some silly ceramic, etc)

In addition, they are the same left and right so the RH rotor has the vanes going the wrong direction, and in fact, the rotor on the right has left stamped on it!
That's BAD NEWS! You have the wrong rotor on the left side. GM has two different rotor part numbers for the front, as far as I know. The rotor will NOT cool itself correctly if the vanes are pointed in the wrong direction. If I were you, I'd get on GM's case quickly about this.

I always said a nice 2 piece rotor with aluminum hat would be a good upgrade/weight saving mod long before Z06 was released. Sounds like ~40lb of weight savings…
Aside from weight savings it’s a change to replace those stupid cross drilled rotors with solid or slotted ones.
