Default Opinions $3750 To Build a 408 Stroker Long Block (LONG)

I picked up my 408 CI Stroker Long Block and balanced SPEC Clutch on Friday. I was charged $3750 for labor & Cometic Head Gaskets. I supplied New CI 6.0 Block, Lunati Rotating Assembly,Stage 3 Heads, YT Rockers, Comp Cam,ATI Damper, and other parts, nuts, bolts, & gaskets.

The Long Block was done by a refered local engine builder. I first contracted for a Short Block to be built $1750 labor only.
Bore Hone Block
Install Lunati Rotating Assembly & Cam Bearings (balanced at factory) Blue Print
(Tip: when using ARP Main Studs you still need Factory Side Main Bolts) ARP does not include the side bolts in the kit.

I then decided to not cut corners and have the Long Block built.
You know Oil Pump, Timing Chain, Cam Shaft installed & INDEXED, ATI Damper Installed, Patriot Heads double checked & installed with YELLA TERRA Rockers, ARP Studs, & Cometic Head Gaskets. Oil pan checked for clearance and installed. FAST Intake installed.
Water Pump, Fuel Rail, Throttle Body and External Sensors were not installed.

I had the SPEC 2.5 Hybrid Clutch & aluminum FW checked for balancing. The pressure plate was way out. I guess Spec uses their own balancing specs. YEH RIGHT.

I am not complaining about the price, but I didn't figure it would be more than doulble the Short Block. I do trust the builder, but I wonder how much agravation money was added (waiting on GM bolts). It took 5 months from start to finish.

Congrats on your new setup. Nothing is cheap. You end up spending upwards of $10K (easily) with either a stroker or FI.

Cheers,

Mark

The price was just for long block labor, clutch balancing, & Cometic head gaskets. No engine or clutch install.

The place that's doing mine is only charging me under $1000 to bore and assemble my 408 short block.
