Corvette Fatality at TMS?
Anyone got more info on this? I read it on CC.com and it was referenced to a post on roadfly.org, I hope it is incorrect, supposedly one or two fatalities at TMS Panoz track event:
"Don't know the full details except thirdhand from someone who was allegedly there Friday. The story I got was...
A couple from out of state was driving their 2 week old C6 in the Panoz track day.
Evidently my source said he wasn't an experienced driver and was overcooking his brakes and over driving the car all morning. She actually went up to the couple and gave him some advice to take it smoother.
I've been to a Panoz track day before and there is virtually no instruction for track day participants. This inexperienced driver was basically on his own to make mistakes.
Afternoon session he evidently cooked his brakes through the first chicane braking zone and instead of staying on the oval, still went down to make the chicane. He hit the inside cement wall and moved it 15 feet!
Panoz had hardly any corner workers. Luckily the Ambulance crew heard the impact and immediately rushed to the scene. The girl that was there is a very experienced SCCA corner worker, although she wasn't working that day. She saw other cars continually circle around and fly out of the pits as there were no corner workers to wave them off. She actually took the action of rushing over and waving off other cars.
Both were unconscious, one or both came to 10 minutes later. One care flight came in and then a second to bring 2 neurosurgeons. One or both died around 45 minutes after the accident.
Please please please take track driving seriously folks. I would almost strongly recommend you don't run on a track in a street car until you know what you're doing.
I would think Panoz is going to have some trouble on their hands as they appear negligent for not having the proper number of corner workers and most importantly not monitoring the participants and giving some proper instruction or reprimands where it appeared obviously due.
Anyone know anything more about this?"

Last I heard they were both careflighted to the Hosp and in ICU.
My parents are friends with them - I'll see if dad has more info.

I know everyone is curious so I'll try and give an update as of this morning. The driver (husband) has a broken jaw in several places, loss of some teeth, some cracked ribs and numerous bumps and bruises. Maybe today the doctor will make a decision of what needs to be done to repair the jaw.
The passenger (his wife) did not fare as well. She is still in ICU and suffered a broken neck, pelvis, ribs (I think), and ankle. The neck is stabilized and I think she will have surgery today for the broken pelvis bone.
He does not remember what happened so that part may remain a mystery.
All things considered, they are both very lucky and they thank everyone for their concerns and thoughts.

I've never done the Panoz deal but was considering getting their driving school for my 16-yr old son as a Christmas present. This makes me question that idea - I'm guessing no helmets? Minimum instruction? No safety workers?
Hope the misses comes through OK.
