[VIPER MEGA MERGER} C6 Z06 Ties 2008 Viper in MotorTrend....

And the '08 Viper costs $900 less than the same '06 car, thanks to 17% better fuel milage and a lower gas tax.
Sorry guys ... I have an '08 roadster (bright blue with white stripes) on-order at INVOICE, due in March (when that color is released). Loaded, with NAV, etc, it will be less than $84K

I am honestly suprised you would come over and brag about this. A tenth in the quarter mile is NOTHING. I've said it before, Z06 owners just need to put on a $200 dollar air filter and they have the faster car. Not impressed dude, seriously. All I've been hearing about is how the 2008 Viper would be so much faster than the Z06.

Ahhh, not really true. The Z06 runs a 3.42 rear gear vs. the Viper's 3.07. A 3.33 rear gear will be my first and only mod ... it will be MUCH quicker than the Z06 (which will need more than an air filter to keep up)

Le Mans Master
MUCH quicker? doubt it

so then your car will be modded compared to a stock Z

i think its pretty patheticthe viper is one mph, and a tenth in the quarter mile faster than the Z06, while having 100 hp more, and being a naturally aspirated V-10...
on the bright side, at least now its a driver's race

I think the previous generation Viper folk are better off sending their car to Heffner rather than upgrading to the 08. They will have a faster car and it will look better.

It's all about what YOU want but if you're so concerned about price and fuel economy why not spend 10K less for a ZO6 that's just as fast, 300 lbs lighter, better looking, better interior, better handling, much more sexier, better sounding, and has better fuel economy???
Sort of a no brainer in my opinion, but I you get what makes you feel more superior inside

And if the other car modifies his too? 1mph from ONE TEST SO FAR. And one second faster around VIR! No small accomplishment. What if other tests have it 2-3mph ahead? Its ok, you guys have a term for that... I think its "a drivers race". But of course a previous model SRT vs. 06Z06 is not a drivers race, that is a complete blowout and an assured win for the Z, because this is justification-world where any excuse may be used and believed to justify that one's car is superior, even when it's not in certain metrics.
Vipers usually respond very well to flow mods. I wouldn't think you are going to want to run a Viper with similar mods to the modded car you describe. Same goes for headers and exhaust.
In short, don't go there.

Ahh, you used the "drivers race" card. I guess the same as how it's a drivers race between an 03 SRT-10 and an 06Z06, right?

I said this in another thread but since you posted the exact same post in that I'll repreat myself....

As for fuel economy - oh boy... I hear the Prius gets good mileage! Sound in the video above is great! And no GM or Dodge is ever going to sound as good as a Mustang 5.0 with flowmasters. Sorry but it's true! So the Mustang is the better car? Hardly.

Translation "If I make my car modified, it will be faster than another stock car" (duh)

It's a drivers race dude.
The 06 Viper vs the 06 Z06 had a 5 MPH difference in the 1/4 according to C&D and Motor Trend tests. Now we are only talking about 1 MPH difference reported by both C&D and Edmunds. Motor Trend will have similar results as C&D just like they did in the past. In fact, Motor Trend actually showed a larger gap in perfromance between the 06 Z06 and 06 Viper compared to C&D.

I was reading in Viperalley that they expect to see a 130 trap speed in the 1/4, and their "ranger" should hit 10s bone stock with street tires. That would be impressive. I'm skeptical but damn that would be awesome.

Both are great cars. How's the torque with the Viper at highway speeds and gearing? I suspect with 100HP more on tap, that is where most of the differences in power will show up compared to 1/4 times.
With as much power as these cars have, it's unlikely we'd see much difference in 0-60 and 1/4 miles times, it's not like anyone is going to halve or even take precious seconds off any of these current times anytime soon.
More accurate specs for real world use may be 60-100mph, 100-200mph, etc.
