fx3 actuator
hello you all
i drove last week over a very rough bump in the road and after that i got the SRC light in the information center.
i was trying to get the code's but was getting them al.
so i just took them apart , in the right rear the actuator just popped apart , so one half stil on the shock and one half on the wires.
now i probably lost the plastic gears in the frame , the rest of the actuator appears to be okay.
is there anybody that have had this before and how did he get the plastic pieces out of the frame?
the frame goes downwards in front of the rear shocks , so i gues it is next to impossible to get the small plastic gears out of it.
can you buy these parts separately as a complete actuator is rather expensive.
thanks in advance and happy easter
jim

repair parts for the actuators aren't available. sometimes you can epoxy them together, but it generally doesn't last.
when the shocks "bottom out" they put a huge load on the actuators which are hard brittle plastic and they break.
you can generally find them used for about $150

okay but there is nothing to be glued together , the bump just popped the actuator apart in the middle where the plastic gears are.
nothing is broken , i am just missing the plastic gears .
those are probably somewhere in the frame or have falling out some where else out of the frame while i was driving home.
i don't want to spend 150 to 250 dollars just for the plastic gears.
the 2 halves of the actuator can be put together again.

I think this "will do"
I've never used this service but I'd say you're a good "candidate" and you can report back on the results!

I just realized your location and I imagine you could likely use a bit of support from one of us here! I'm sure there will be several volunteers. I wouldn't mind.

Burning Brakes
Geraci4HP@aol.com
Took a long time, had to buy a set of (4) gears, but it worked, was metal, and included the metal pin. Think a set of (4) was $150 or $180
"Yes, please recommend this product to fellow vette owners I appreciate it very much. I also rebuild the actuator motors that some times brake when the gear goes bad. The motors are $180.00 ea, rebuilt 2 week turnaround. Again Thankyou for your order, Sorry it took so long.
Merry Christmas

hi guys
thanks for al the reply's.
i am not afraid to spend money , but i am going to try to get the parts out of the frame first , they must be in there somewhere.
i do not want to spend money if it is not necessary .
if i am not succesfull , i can try Mark van Diepenbeek here in holland.
he is a corvette specialist well known by Gordon Killebrew , he was there recently.
i know he has a lot of c3 and c4 parts , may be he has a box of actuators.
but i have to wait until after the easter holiday here.
thanks for the offers , i know that you have fair price's but there is also shipping to the Netherlands involved wich bump the price up.
if i am totaly unsuccesfull here in holland i am going to contact one of you guys.
regards

I just got my actuators back from the Captain (and crew). Friendly and very helpful people who had them on the road back to me within two days of receiving them. Complete turnaround with shipping both ways was exactly a week.

Melting Slicks
For reference, my rears came apart too. Mainly because I swap between street and track sets often. Bumped them too many times. Glued them back with epoxy, but they only lasted a few years. After glue failed, I used electric tape and that worked too til I got replacements. Probably would last much longer if you dont remove them like me. Got a used set for good price and now Im real careful.
