Default Overheating / Cooling FAQ

C1 and C2 FAQ thread (main thread)

FACT, all Corvette's overheat! Popular mis-conception, when they left the factory that was not an issue. Most of these cars run all the time at 180 degrees. Prior to 66, the factory did not set a temperature to define overheating. Starting in 66, the owners manual said 210 was okay. The guess is with big blocks, AC, and emissions starting they allowed for warmer running. Again, most C1 and C2 owners get their cars to run at 180 degrees no problem. Quick Summary to check:
1. Is you gauge accurate? Point an IR gun at the thermostat housing to confirm.
2. Tuning, improperly adjusted timing or carb can cause it to run hot.
3. Re-engineering, the factory stuff works on most cars, especially stock. That assumes the shrouds and correct parts are installed.

The following discussions should help you find a fix so you run cool this summer. Many also discuss re-engineering ideas some of our members have used with success.

Hope you find this usefull, reserved a few posts in case needed in the future. Tried to gather items that I may find useful in the future, also post on topics that are asked repeatedly. GreyGhost started the idea, worked with him a while and he got busy with work so I posted it.

If you see something that should be added, please post a link. I tried to group things togetner alphabetically, some may be a bit off but believe it's a good start.
