[Z06] Dupe: Sort Of - Nurburgring times

Dupe: Sort Of - Nurburgring times
Found this over at GM LSX Syndicate: It's sort of a dupe, but just one more instance of the 7:40 claim. They even name Jan Magnusen as the driver.
For those who follow the development of performance cars, and the testing that goes on at Nurburgring, the new Corvette Z06 has made history. According to some German car magazines, it ran a 7:40 lap driven by a Jan Magnusen (a C6R LeMans driver).
Here is a comparison of other production cars which ran at Nurburgring:
7:28 --- Porsche Carrera GT, Walther Röhrl, Autobild July 2004
7:32.4 -- Porsche Carrera GT, definitive time by Horst Von Saurma
7:32.5 - Gemballa Porsche GTR 600 EVO, Wolfgang Kaufmann (2001)
7:36 --- Porsche Carrera GT, factory test driver Walther Röhrl (2002)
7:40* -- Porsche Carrera GT, *estimated time on cold and partially wet track (2003)

Can someone summarize this Ring controversy for me ? Did the Z do a 7:40 or a 7:43 time.
I'd earlier seen comments that the 7:40 was the Blue Devil's time ... but, this can't be ligit.
Clearly the Devil would run down in the high 20's or 30's ( where the Carrera GT runs).

Additionally, there are actual pictures of Jan and the blue Z06 at the ring on a couple of the other boards (digital and Z06).
I've seen 7:40 and 7:43. I'm leaning towards 7:43 because 7:40 sounds like something that could have been mistakenly misunderstood from someone saying it did 7:40's or something like that. But it could be either, or none. Nothing confirmed yet.
Still, where there is smoke, there's often fire and I suspect it will turn out that the Z06 did one of the two numbers above.

There might be some vehicles in test form that some lucky engineers are toying with, but nothing they'd likely take to the ring to test.

Still ... remember all those forum members last week who were convinced that Autoweek had the photos of the Blue Devil running the Ring ?
Claiming the pictures were PROOF of it. Claiming pictures were so easy to get at the Ring. Stating GM couldn't protect its Devil from even a neophyte photographer.
Well .... let them now eat some Blue Z roadkill ... and Crow from their little tinhorns.

So if someone can translate that correctly, you'll have an answer. Some say that it translates to "not quite 7:40" and others state that it says "no better than 7:40."
Best as I can tell, it's just saying that it couldn't do better than 7:40. Not that it specifically did 7:40.
I don't know German, so hopefully someone else here is fluent.

This is from a friend of mine.
"Here’s a quick attempt. Tell me if it makes sense to you. Not great grammar, but I’m in a hurry here!!!"
“Straight from his GT1 class victory at Le Mans, Jan Magnusson shortly thereafter at the Nuremburg Ring came up with speed. With the Corvette Z06, should the track record fall – great advertising for the new sports Corvette. However, more than a good 7:40 wasn’t in it. The North Loop record for Series Cars is still held by a Donkervoort RS: 7:18:01.”

Also ... just in from Automobile ... the Porsche Cayman S did the Ring in 8:11 ... driven by the Walter Rohrl. Not bad for a Boxster with a hardtop.

Everything in this translation is true and verifiable except for the actual time for the Z06 (assuming it was a Z06 and not a Blue Devil).
You'll also notice a Z06 time of 7:40 has entered the listings for the Ring times on some sites. Some sites say it hasn't been verified yet (it hasn't) and that is where we are are today.

Good points ... great legal opinion. I'd want you on the jury .. if ever on trial.
