voltage regulator temperature

Replaced the VR in my car. It is a 66 427/425. Took it for a ride. Checked under hood and VR cover was very very hot. Is this normal ??

Installing Voltage regulator on a 66 BB

Does anyone have an easy easy to install the four pin connector that attaches to the votage regulator. I cant get the connector to click in.
