The base piece is wide and covers the frame rail....

The base piece is wide and covers the frame rail. The narrow trim piece mounts over the base piece and covers the screws used to attach the base.
It would look unfinished if you omitted either one...

One of the calipers is leaking because the car is seldom driven so I might as well rebuild all 4 calipers and since I'm 75 years old, the next time they leak it will be my son's problem, not mine. :)

I did my 68 with flocking powder I obtained at a craft store chain here in Massachusetts called Michael's.
I sprayed 3M glue, dumped in the flocking and tipped it upside down to get out any excess....

Happy Birthday

My 68 L79 coupe is 50 years old today and I have owned it for the last 46 years and it still runs and looks perfect.
Love this car and will never sell it; my oldest son already has his eye on it....
