I'd say replace it while you have it out - It adds structure to the front end, no need worrying about it getting worse - IMHO

It may sound odd, but pull the brake light bulbs out and check them and make sure they are OK. I had a similar issue a while ago and it turned out to be a bad bulb that the brake light filament fell...

Don't feel bad - Stuff like this happens - I think you can buy a replacement stater harness separately. I'm not able to reach right now (at work) but check it out and if you can I'd say replace it....

I would start by replacing that socket AND check all the other sockets AND while you are there double check that the correct bulbs are installed - Weird stuff happens when all is not well with bulbs...
