I do not know if there was an adaptor as I was only helping on the mechanical part. The car owner took it to a friend who has a obd1 scanner. Is this adaptor usually included?

Not sure on a C4 but on a C5 the blower is facing the motor. On a Mustang it's facing away from the motor. You may not be able to use that head unit as it may rotate the wrong direction for you C4....

It's not like the car requires some kind of specialist to do drivetrain work. It's basically a modified C6 and therefore is no different in protocol for a clutch replacement.
