My 98 did the same thing. If I wound it up and didn't get it hooked up some times, it would just spin and bake. Always seemed to be ok after it cooled down. Nasty smell, though. I am replacing mine...

Just call your local bearing dealer and give them the Timken part #. (available in the installation guide in the archives). I got mine from Kaman Bearings for about $150 per corner.
