Are safe to sandblast to remove the old paint etc.

Broke stainless steel bolt in block ... ( dont ask ) Need Help.

my rubber gaskets had been too thick so I had to go with a longer bolt so I decided , why not go stainless? that wont melt right? and so a week later when I went to go take the valve cover off........

sorry should of mentioned that I have a 1969 vette and here is a picture. The temperture gauge has been sort of working befor this but its a resto project just I wouldnt imagine it was that accurate

If I use a cork gasket and the contacts are clean , can I just glue the cork to the valve cover and use no silicone ?? The corvette shop guy had said so but I was wondering your opinion on it
