Soft top latches

Could anyone help me please? I have a 59 and had a rumbling on the axle for some time. So I have had all the bearings renewed.
But my manual doesn't give me the amount of lash or backlash required...

I have got to admit that driving experience has been limited to California, Arizona,Nevada,Florida and Utah. So the only big cities I have encountered have been LA & SF.
