Re: zz502 will it work (kanka)

Yes, it'll work. And I have made the change. Not to a 502, but to a 427, which is still a big block. Lemme answer your individual questions:

1. Aluminum heads WILL save weight. Look for...

Re: Help engine gurus!!!!!!! (Ironcross)

You have just discovered that bigger is not always better. You'd recover a lot of the lost torque if you just got a set of GM Vortec heads and had them machined for better springs. Torque is what...

Re: bearing polishing?? do or don't (WashingtonRacer)

Replace your bearings. It's not that expensive, and is cheaper than the alternative, a complete engine rebuild. You may have gotten your bearings smooth, but you can't guarantee the continuity of...

Re: DD2000 Cam - Feasible? (HeaderDesign.com)

:iagree:

Most of the time, you'll see about a 10 degree difference between intake and exhaust duration if it's a dual pattern cam. The purpose of a dual pattern cam is to increase exhaust...

Re: M20 vs M21 Transmission (Dep)

The gear ratios were a lot different. The M20 wide ratio had a 2.52:1 first gear ratio, which helped the small blocks get off the line better. The big blocks and stronger small blocks didn't need...

Re: C3 Frame vs. C2 Frame (six-T-six)

It'll work. I think the most that was done was reinforcement, fillet gussets and such. Should still fit. The C3 was designed over the C2 frame and I don't think 1974 had enough differences to...

Re: Torque vs Horsepower (Bearcat)

But then again...don't count me on the horsepower side of the war either. I do love torque. I've got two cars that make a bunch of torque, and both are super fun to drive.

The Firebird is all...

Re: Torque vs Horsepower (Dep)

Well I do. I don't talk much about it. But I recreated a "modern version" of an L88 just to see if I could, and to see what all the fuss was about. Man, that engine does have the top end mojo, no...

Re: EMMISONS SOLUTION, or maybe not? (zwede)

Zwede, that totally depends on where you live. In Colorado, it wouldn't fail the visual. All they would care about is if it burns clean enough.

Yes, you could easily do that though. The cats...

Re: C3 Frame vs. C2 Frame (six-T-six)

The early C3's were identical. Later C3's may have had some differences. If you use a 68 or 69 frame, I'm pretty sure it should be the same as any C2 frame.

Re: Torque vs Horsepower (aharte)

Horsepower is torque...multiplied with the rpm at that point on the torque curve. You can picture it as the "staying power" of torque. Brute torque will launch you very well, but if the engine...

Re: Need advice about engine surprise (Bigben)

I don't think anyone's trying to suggest what you can get away with, don't take it like that. I think we're just trying to give you the options.

Yes, the $500 would be more than reasonable. But...

Re: Need advice about engine surprise (Bigben)

If he bought it as is, then he has no case. But he could give you a bad review in e-bay possibly. What did he say to you? What does he want to do?

You could offer him a $200 credit to go find...

Re: Need advice about engine surprise (Bigben)

Ouch. He may have a case too. He didn't buy what he was being told he was buying. I have no love for the 305 engine. It was a weakling with not much potential, too much stroke, and horrible...

Re: Verrrrrrryyyy Interesting! (Spook)

Yeah, they can really be pretty dense. I used to get them all the time trying to challenge my street/strip 465-powered 68 Firebird. I'd just look at them like...you're kidding! Then they'd take...

Re: Verrrrrrryyyy Interesting! (GrandSportC3)

That is interesting. I am a jet engine mechanic of 19 years. I work on F-16C jets for the Colorado Guard. They're the hotter version with the GE F110-100 engines. The main fuel line on one of...

Re: water cooled oil cooler ? (spikezz4)

I'd exercise caution with one of those. They are very effective, at least in my case. On a 90 degree day, hard driving, I can't get past 140 degree engine temp. I'm going to bypass the oil cooler...

Re: Fastest Street Vette in Tx is on again. We need some "Real Vette's" to attend! (munday)

I have a friend with a 12.2 second (at 4400 feet ASL) 406-powered '68 Vert with 3.70 gears and nitrous, which gets it deep into the 11's when he sprays. Unfortunately, he needs to go through his...

Re: Drove my vette to work today...had some problems (munday)

Sounds like you had a couple of things going on. In all likelihood, the source of your steam and coolant on the passenger side of your cockpit is probably a leaking heater core. These are...

Re: Battery Cables (l2vette)

It's technically more complicated than that. The strand count is more important, because electrons travel on the surface of the wire, so more strands=more surface area. BUT, generally speaking, the...

Re: Electric Clock questions (LAvetteman)

Mine always drained my battery. I'm yanking it in favor of an Autometer 2 1/16" engine oil temperature gauge, on the return line from my oil cooler.

Re: List your cam and vacuum specs here. (MotorHead)

Crane solid roller 246/254 (int/exh) @ 0.050", 0.615" intake, 0.636" exhaust, 110 degree LSA. Let's see, if I remember right I had about 9 in hg at about 800 to 1000 rpm idle speed? It's been...
