From what i've read 20 to 30 above coolant temp is normal. Mine was just about 60 to 65 above coolnat temp which is how i knew something wasn't right. Mine is an 84 early production with z51...

Update

So took it out for normal driving,

Coolant temps are now normal, no more than 198.

Oil temp still too high for my taste, at 250 degrees.

I'll be testing the oil temp switch to see if that's...

First i ordered a water pump from napa turned out it was cast iron not aluminum, so that killed 2 days.

Check the wires going to the starter, if they are corroded you will have a no start or poor hot start, clean the connections, check for broken missing insulation on these wires it's crucial.
