Yup. Manual cars don`t have this problem. But for some reason, with an automatic, you get a brake pedal that`s two feet wide, and sits an inch away from the go pedal!

I would think the answer lies beneath the seat in the 72. If the well & retractor are under there, chances are the seat was replaced with an earlier one at some point in time.
