1970 TH400 - No Downshifting Into 1st Only

Transmission shifts beautifully 1-2-3 and back down 3-2-1 when coming to a stop. Kicks down from 3rd to 2nd when gassing it a bit but will not kick down to 1st from either 2nd or 3rd at any speed up...

1970. 65,000 miles. Lots of Kansas hot summers and very cold winters were its likely demise and just the normal wear and tear. Yes, quite a bit in the pan/screen.

Oh yah, for sure. The pan is dropped. I even took off the oil pump and cleaned the screen all out. Put on a metal oil pump shaft while I was in there. Good to go now!

TH400 Leak Solved? Selector Shaft Seal.

Like many, I fell for the trap that it was my pan leaking. I saw the selector shaft seal leaking a bit but did not think it could possibly be enough to drip down and cover the pan like it was doing....

Not sure how the previous owner did not notice this or try to fix it. He was more of a cruise around in it only type of guy, however. This stuff bugs me! I'll fix it soon.
