Re: [Duke et al] Any insight into maximum compression ratios for various octanes? (SWCDuke)

"I dont' buy the "40 percent power band" on F1 engines. No way!!! "

Then go watch the tape of the 2002 F1 race at Indianapolis. There is a cut of Ruben's car for several laps in a row where he...

Re: The advance of engine technology (SWCDuke)

"The high buck, high specific output exotics get poor fuel ecomony, because their engines are not efficient in the low operating range. "

Basically agreed, in the lower 1/3rd of the RPM band, it...

Re: [Duke et al] Any insight into maximum compression ratios for various octanes? (SWCDuke)

Adding a few items to SWDukes posting:

"An example is F1 engines. Because of their extremely oversquare bore/stroke ratio of 2:1 or better, the combustion volume is a thin disk with high surface...

Re: Totally different "High Oil Consumption" issue. (FRISKY)

Many times the consumption of oil has little to do with the weight of the oil, but has to do with the Flash Point of the oil. Look up the data for M1 and see if the 10W30 has a lower flash point than...

Re: Are there any negetive side effects from using wheel spacers on a C5...if any? (97C5ENVY)

At the front there are addition load on the wheel bearings, and additional loads on teh steering rack end links.

At the rear there are additional wheel bearing loads.

Are any of these loads big...

Re: Road Race setup ?? (Ruby6spd)

Then leave it alone until your driving capabilities exceede* the car's capabilities. This includes the T1 bars and the Z06 shocks. $250 invested in driver improvement gains a lot more speed than $250...

Re: The advance of engine technology (SWCDuke)

Yes, simply using the words "same cost structure" would eliminate all of the high reving similar sized DOHC engines. Ceratinly the Ford DOHC and SOHC are nothing to write home about.....

The...

Re: The advance of engine technology (SWCDuke)

Once again, you are confused.

The DOHC Ferrari 575 is exaclty the same size as our LS1, produces 434 lb-ft at 5250 and revs to 7700 and produces 515 HP at 7250.

This is more TQ, more HP and...

Re: Ferrari hunting...(question for the experts) (Wolvreen)

Too bad.....

Since Porsches and Ferraris do not habitate drag strips, if you want to dominate these, you need to set your car up for raod racing. For this you will need cooling; transmission...

Re: Does changing the rear gear ratio change the RWHP #and/or torque? (JDs00PewterCoupe)

With taller rear gears, the RWHP 'sees' more of the rotational inertia (of engine and driveline) than with standard gears. So, just like the HP numbers out of 1st and 2nd gears are lower than the HP...

Re: On big butts (SloPoke)

I never liked the big butt on the C5, and never put my finger on why. But (sic) when the C6 showed up it was clear;

The crisper lines of the C6 hide the bigness of the butt, while the rounder...

Re: 400 HP is great, but why not more? (LongTimer)

Why not more?

This leads me to remember a statement I used to make 20 years ago concerning bad drivers:

Do you want to know how to get the bad drivers off the roads?
Yes!
Give everybody a 600...

Re: Lack of HP in the C6 (SWCDuke)

You were arguing that point with the clause: "per ... cubic foot of package volume"

I mearly pointed out that this clause is not true. It is a simple and minor point in the whole scheme of things.

Re: Lack of HP in the C6 (SWCDuke)

BTW, I agree with all the statements that SW and need-for-speed posted.

I was imply arguing aginst the singular point that: the LS1/6 is the smallest package of a given power level. It is not.

Re: Drilled/slotted rotors. Anybody have their's turned? or do you trash them? (chuckster)

You just have to know how to run the machine. Turn the rotation rate down and make a single very slow cut. You simply cannot hurry a slotted. drilled rotor face cut. If you hurry, you just end up...

Re: Slowdown on line after C6 announced? (BuckyThreadkiller)

The flaw in your logic is that GM has already ordered parts for (lets say) 32,000 '04 Vetts of some mixture in Coupe, convertible, and Z06. The pipeline begins at the manufacturing suppliers not at...
