Did i say that at all! I know they dont open until 160 degree and it i fully open around 178. At no point did i say the thermostat controls how hot your motor runs.

Check to make sure its not a manifold gasket. If you have an exhaust leak it will TICK a lot.

Look around the exhaust manifold for any carbon/black marks on the head, or spark plugs etc.

I just turned over to 104K miles the end of last summer. Head/cam/headers etc. I tossed it back to cam only this winter and the motor looks mint inside still. Doesn't burn oil etc.
