I think the problem is the safety switch that requires the clutch to be pushed when starting. Does anyone know where this switch is located. I'm guessing under the dash on the clutch peddle?

I tried it at the strip once. Not enough difference, in my opinion, to be worth the effort. Others may disagree.

IMHO you'll be better off getting sticky tires, if you don't already have them.
